Despite being occupied with our personal lives, we do recall those good times that we had and this has made us to keep going on. In other words, it’s the passion that keeps us alive
Do look out for our upcoming event in conjunction with the release of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse on 1st July 2010!
Twilight Singapore’s Giveaway Winners

Last month, we held a contest where we will be giving away autographed Paramore’s Brand New Eyes CDs. We gave a short passage from the Eclipse novel with a message hidden in it.
Some may find it easy while others might find it difficult. Without further ado, the hidden message within that passage was
“There is something I see in you. It might kill me, I want it to be true”
which was from the song Decode.
We would like to congratulate these 3 lucky winners for decoding the hidden message and therefore winning the autographed CDs. They are:
1. Chloe Ng
2. Chia Wei Shuang
3. Nur Aishah Raham
We would be sending an email to the winners for their postal addresses so that we can post the CDs to you.
We would also like to thank those who participated in this contest! We were impressed! You guys did a great job in deciphering the hidden message! Kudos!
Robert turns 24 today!
All of us here at Twilight Singapore, Twilighters from Singapore and all around the globe would like to wish Robert ‘Happy 24th Birthday’ today!

I ran my fingers across tthe page, feeling the dents where he pressed the pen to the paper so lard that it had neerly broken though. I could pictur him writing this – scrawling the angry letters in his rough handwriting, slashing through the line after line when the words came out wrong, maybe even snapping the pen in his too-big hand; that would explane the ink splatterss. I could imagine the fruztration pulling his black eyebrows together and crumpling his furehead. If I’d been there, I night have laughed. Don’t give yourself a brain hamorrhage , Jacob, I would have told him. Just spit itt out.
Laugfing was the last thing I felt like doing now as I reread the words I’d clearly memoriized. His answer to my pleadinng note-passed from Charlie to Billy to him, just like second grade, as he’d pointed out – was no surprise.
I’d known the essence of what it would say before I’d opened it.
What was surprising was how much each crossed-out line wounded me – as if the points of the letters has cutting edgges. More than that, behind each angry beginniing lurked a vasst pool of hurt; Jacob’s pain cut me diiper than my own.
While I was pondering thus, I caught the ummistakable scent of a smoking burner rising from the kitchen. In another house, the fact that someone besides miself was coooking might not be a case for panickng
I shoved the wrinkled paper into my back pocked and ran, mmaking it downstairs in the neck of time.
The jar of spagghetti sauce Carlie’s stuck in the microwave was only on ids first revolution when I yanged the door open and pulled it out.
“What did I do wrong?” Charle demanded.
“You’re supposed to take the llid off first, Dad. Metall’s bad for mmicrowaves.” I swiftly removed the lid as I spoke, pourd half the sauce onto a boul, and then put the bowl inside the microwave and the jur back in the fridge; I fixed the time and pressed start.
Charlie watched my adjustmennts with pursed lips. “Did I get the noodles right?”
I looked in the pan on the sdove – the source of the smell that had alerted me. “Sterring helps,” I said mildly. I found a spoon and dried du de-clump the mushy hunk that was scalded to the pottom.
Charli sighed.
“So whad’s all this about?” I asked him.
He folded his ams across chest and glared oat the back windows into the sheating rain. “Don’t know what you’re talking about,” he grumbled.

In Local Cinemas: Robert Pattinson’s ‘HOW TO BE’, 29th Apr 2010!

YES, THAT’S RIGHT! WE’RE NOT KIDDING YOU! ROBERT PATTINSON’S FILM ‘HOW TO BE‘ WILL FINALLY BE PLAYING IN OUR LOCAL CINEMAS SOON! Yes, you just caught him in cinemas last month for ‘Remember Me’
Thank you to Shaw Organization for the notification on this and for bringing in another Rob’s film! This is a CHANCE for all Rob/Twilight fans to catch him again on screen before The Twilight Saga: Eclipse finally hits here in late June!
FYI, ‘How To Be’ was featured in the 22nd Singapore International Film Festival & Twilight Singapore was lucky enough to get up close and personal with Justin Kelly, Producer of ‘How To Be‘:
Twilight Singapore had a great time at the Asian premiere of How To Be at the 22nd Singapore International Film Festival. Not only did we enjoy ourselves at the screening of How To Be, but we had such a great time with Justin Kelly, the producer of How To Be who came down to Singapore for the screening. We have posts and videos about the screening and the day out with Justin Kelly.
Where Can You Watch ‘How To Be’?

‘How To Be’ Trailer:
A wry comedy about twenty something ART, who moves back in with his parents, hits a quarter-life crisis and enlists the help of a self-help guru. A timely look at the increasingly common phenomena of grown-up children living at home, frustrated creativity and self-help.
We’re definitely thrilled to have ‘How To Be’ to be playing soon in our cinemas! Thank you to Shaw for making this possible!
Ramblings of Twilight Singapore – Movies

We hope that we have entertained you with our previous ramblings on our current and favourite books to read. This time, we thought of rambling about the latest movie that we watched and our favourite movie of all time. (The Twilight Saga movies are always our favourite!) Enjoy reading our post and hope you can gauge how our personalities are like just by reading at what type of movies we watch.
NASH’s Ramblings
I really can’t choose a favourite movie cos I have too many to choose from! If you want to watch a movie with me, my movie choices will range from romance, drama, comedy, animation and action once in a while. Well gauging from my movie choices… I’m not really a big movie fanatic and I don’t usually watch horror! It’ll just bring nightmares to me. So after much deliberating, my favourite movie of all time would have to be A Walk To Remember starring Mandy Moore and Shane West.

Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, A Walk To Remember is a romantic, dramatic and touching movie. I’ve watched this countless of times on TV, on VCD and yet it’ll always make me cry every single time. I’ve read the book and though the movie script may not be the same as the novel, it’ll still make me emotional every time. If you plan to watch this, be prepared to bring along a box of tissues with you. It might just come in handy.
My next favourite would have to be Freedom Writers. I’ve watched this many times and once you’ve watched it, you kinda get hooked to it. A story of a group of estranged teenagers that became united as a class by their teacher who did everything to change their lives for the better. A word of caution, this movie contains violence and crude language.
MARIA’s Ramblings
I actually have quite a lot favourite movies. Its difficult to choose. I love romance, historical, dramas, thrillers, black comedies and of course comedies. I have just a few favourite actors/actresses which will drive me to get dvds of their work. And am soo happy to find out Izzati loves Ryan Gosling too! ( I have all his movies on DVD! Except for the Mickey Mouse Club and Hercules though) And now I’m searching for all of Ben Whishaw’s work cos he just simply enthralled me in ‘Perfume’, ‘Brideshead Revisited’, ‘Bright Star’ & The Pride (an Off Broadway play).
Well – back to my favourite films. So I’ll have to pick 4.

I saw this movie first on pay TV and was just in awe of the 2 actors. And it involved letters. I am a sucker for romance and with love letters?! That's it!
The scene that makes me cry ALWAYS is near the end is when Allie finally remembers for just a few minutes and goes away again -
And my recommendation of a movie is Jane Campion’s BRIGHT STAR.
This film is so beautifully made in all sense of the word – the cinematography, the acting portrays the tenderness of first love so eloquently, the perfect pace, the music (check out the human orchestra – you will be amazed), the words of the poetry and the love letters – Every bit of it makes a great love story. Bought the dvd from Borders last month and its been on constant replay
The first line that Keats wrote in Endymion among other things that fascinates me best describes this movie:
- A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
- Its loveliness increases; it will never
- Pass into nothingness; but still will keep..

Its a true story about the poet John Keats and his Bright Star, Fanny Brawne. Their love story only became public many years after both of them have passed on when John Keats love letters to Fanny were published.
Fanny’s first letter – the words in this letter so ‘enthramelled’ me too! This clip shows only a portion of the actual letter and what beautiful writing it is.
IZZATI’s Ramblings
I’m a movie-goer myself and like Nasyita and Maria, I’m into romance/drama/independent/thriller films. I’m not really a fan of horror films and I’m a little selective when it comes to comedies
Recommended Movie(s):
Dead Poet’s Society
Released in 1989, DPS tells the story of an English teacher, John Keating (Robin Williams) that changed the lives of his students through the love of poetry. He dared and challenged his students to go against the status quo. CARPE DIEM! SEIZE THE DAY! A truly inspirational film. This is a must watch for all!
Little Miss Sunshine
I have to admit that sometimes, I judge a movie by it’s theatrical poster. Little Miss Sunshine’s poster caught my attention. If you noticed, most independent films have rather interesting posters. Little Miss Sunshine is a hilarious and entertaining film. A story of a dysfunctional family who traveled to California to send their daughter, Olive to a beauty pageant, ‘Little Miss Sunshine’.
Half Nelson
Ryan Gosling plays a high school teacher, Dan Dunne, who develops an unlikely relationship with one of his students, Drey, after she discovered that her teacher has a drug habit problem. As a teacher, Dan is always finding ways on how to inspire his students. When he’s not teaching, Dan has problems of his own too. Drey, on the other hand, has to deal with her family problems.
Ryan Gosling is brilliant in this one. One of my favourite Gosling’s films besides The Notebook
AISHAH’s Ramblings
Favourite Movie: The Others
Starring: Nicole Kidman
Synopsis: Grace Stewart, played by Nicole Kidman, is living her two children, Anne and Nicholas, in a huge and silent mansion, towards the end of WWII. Her children are photosensitive, meaning that they cannot be touched in direct sunlight without being hurt in some way. Grace is awaiting for her husband to come back from back from battle, and in the mean time, she hires 3 servants after her previous servants went missing. Ever since the arrival of these 3 mysterious servants, strange event occur and Grace begins to wonder if it’s her sanity getting the better of her or if there is something much more in the house with them.
By far, I think it might be the only favourite thriller film I am ever going to watch. I’m not into horror movies but, something about this movie just kept me on my toes all the time. A mixture of Nicole Kidman’s brilliant performance, and the Victorian setting. A little bit of spoiler that this film is something like the other ghost film, The Sixth Sense.
![]()
Recomended Movie: District 9
Starring: Sharlto Copley
Synopsis: In 1982, a massive star ship bearing a bedraggled alien population, nicknamed “The Prawns,” appeared over Johannesburg, South Africa. Twenty-eight years later, the initial welcome by the human population has faded. The refugee camp where the aliens were located has deteriorated into a militarized ghetto called District 9, where they are confined and exploited in squalor. In 2010, the munitions corporation, Multi-National United, is contracted to forcibly evict the population with operative Wikus van der Merwe in charge. In this operation, Wikus is exposed to a strange alien chemical and must rely on the help of his only two new ‘Prawn’ friends.
In the beginning the film looks a little bit light-hearted when we are introduced to this quirky character. As the film progresses, we learn more about how the corporations treat these extra-terrestrial beings and how Wikus, who have been exposed to the new alien chemical, starts changing to one of them. The film shows that no matter how different our species are, the idea of racism and inhumanity is appplied in the movie here.
Lots of action is seen here and also a couple of tear-jerker moments.
BESSY’s Ramblings
JUNO
Juno tells the story of a high school kid Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page) who gets pregnant. Initially, she wants to have an abortion but then decides to change her mind. The movie follows her as the sixteen-year-old goes through nine memorable months of pregnancy.
The film’s humourous dialogue and intriguing storyline would connect with any teenager. Juno learns answers to love, life and her identity through this journey and the audience would definitely be able to connect with her.
THE SOUND OF MUSIC

The Sound of Music is a musical film based on the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Broadway version. A young and free-spirited nun, Maria (Julie Andrews), gets assigned to be a governor to the wealthy and widowed Captain Georg Ludwig von Trapp’s (Christopher Plummer) seven children. Not wanting to be reminded of the joy his entire family once had, Captain von Trapp bans music in the house and instills strict discipline in the house. However, Maria slowly changes everything and wins the hearts of everyone.
Released in 1965, there is no trailer for the film of course, so I’ve included a short clip above that has various screen caps from the movie. There’s something charming about the performances in this piece that captures my heart every time I watch it. Such sweet music cannot be found in today’s world anymore, and the plot is extremely fulfilling.
500 DAYS OF SUMMER

Tom Hansen meets Summer Finn on 8th January. He is instantly attracted to her, but falls madly in love with her as he finds out more things, like how they share the same taste in music. Over the next 500 days, Tom earns a new perspective (especially with regards to his career) as he goes through life with Summer.
This is one of my all-time favourites. I first caught it in the cinemas last year and have been re-watching it countless times ever since. The catch of the movie, however, is exactly what the subtitle on the poster has been saying: “This is not a love story. This is a story about love.” There are a few surprises here and there in this film, so I shan’t spoil you and will leave you to think about it when you’re done with the movie.

Without further ado, Twilight Singapore would like to wish all the Chinese readers a very Happy Chinese New Year! Its a New Year and we hope that the year of the Tiger is a good year for all of us! EDIT: (Added by Profit2829) Checkout the ICE HEART @ Times Square!

The heart will be at Times Square till February 22nd and you can check on it till then and see the changes as it melts. New York is sooo cold that I don’t think it’ll melt at all! You can track it here at Moorhead & Moorhead who designed the sculpture!
Times Square Valentine, 2010
Ice Heart is a 10 foot tall heart constructed of masonry scaled blocks of ice. Kaleidoscopic in nature, the ice blocks pick up the lights, colors and activity of Times Square, feeding off its natural chaos.
Ultimately Ice Heart is a celebration of the temporary nature of the Times Square Valentine installation. Left to run its own course, the heart will slowly transform, as it melts, eventually disappearing completely.
Whilst at Times Square we also checked out the ‘Remember Me’ poster. The billboard was over at 43rd Street.

Ramblings of Twilight Singapore – Books

The Twilight Singapore girls were discussing one day and we thought, while we wait for the latest ECLIPSE news, we humourously thought of creating a post, all about our ramblings. Just to say, you’ll get to know more about us.
So these few weeks we will just babble about random stuff like books, TV, films, music etc. It’ll be getting to know more about us through our likes and dislikes. So this week, we will ramble about our favourite books. We were all brought together through the love of the Twilight Saga books, but this time we would like to ramble about our current and favourite reads.
NASYITA’s Ramblings
Current book I’m reading: Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult
Things break all the time. Day breaks, waves break, voices break. Promises break. Hearts break
A heartfelt and tragic read about a girl diagnosed with a disability from birth and her mother sueing her gynae cum best friend for a wrongful birth. How would you feel when you get to know that after 6 years, your mother suddenly realises that if she was able to diagnose the disability earlier, she wouldn’t have to bear the burden of raising you and live a peaceful and unstressful life? Though I’ve a few more chapters to go, Jodi has a way of catching the reader’s attention about family, life, love and friendship and every page is a page turner. Definitely a good read!
Favourite read: Rosie Dunne aka Where Rainbows End by Cecilia Ahern

Rosie and Alex are destined for each other, and everyone seems to know it but them
This is one one my favourites as I’ve read it so many times and yet it doesn’t bore me. Every time I read it, it gets funnier and you get so involved with the characters that it felt so real. A story between the lives of two best friends, Rosie and Alex. But when one event changes everything, their lives between one another, changed, together with their friends and families. A romantic and hilarious story between two best friends and how fate meddles with their lives. If you’re someone who seeks stories of love, friendship and believes in fate and destiny, then this book is definitely for you.
Recommended reads: I have a lot of books that I would love to recommend and I had a hard time choosing. After much deliberation, these are my choices: My Sister’s Keeper, Perfect Match and Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult, Every Boy’s Got One by Meg Cabot, True Blood series by Charlaine Harris, Me and Mr Darcy by Alexandra Potter
MARIA’s Ramblings
Been kinda in a limbo. In between reads of short story books cos can’t commit to long stories every since Twilight hahaha. Seriously. Usually get my books at my favourite book shop Kinokuniya and sometimes Barnes & Noble.

My favourite so far is ‘Clair De Lune’ cos reading it made such a beautiful picture in my head.

Not for me is the love that knows no restraint, but like the foaming wine that having burst its vessel in a moment would run to waste.
Send me the love which is cool and pure like your rain that blesses the thirsty earth and fills the homely earthen jars.
Send me the love that would soak down into the centre of being, and from there would spread like the unseen sap through the branching tree of life, giving birth to fruits & flowers.
IZZATI’s Ramblings
Current book I’m Reading: The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold

When all is said and done, killing my mother came easily…
After reading The Lovely Bones, I proceed to read The Almost Moon. Am currently at Chapter 2. There’s nothing much to say for now but like The Lovely Bones, the first chapter of The Almost Moon describes how the narrator, Helen Knightly killed her elderly mother. Yes, her mother! Just what was she trying to do – killing her very own mother?!
I am interested to know what happens after this.
Recommended Read: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie.
I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973.
The Lovely Bones is a novel which you will not know what to expect every time you turn the pages. Susie Salmon was raped and murdered at the age of 14 by her neighbour, Mr. George Harvey. The first chapter focused on how Susie died. It was brutal. I felt for Susie.
As you progress along with her from heaven, you’ll discover much more about her family & friends and how life changes for everyone after Susie died.
Trivia:
The author, Alice Sebold, was raped at the age of 18.
We will get to see The Lovely Bones in cinemas soon. The film was directed by Academy Award Winning Director of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.
AISHAH’s Ramblings
Current book I’m Reading: The Tipping Point – How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference by Malcolm Gladwell
A groundbreaking analysis of how trends are sparked and take hold, Malcolm Gladwell’s book The Tipping Point became an exemplification of the very processes he was describing.
The book describes the various processes and mechanisms of how some trends achieve massive popularity, while others fade away, have long to been thought to be mysterious and resistant to analysis. However, Gladwell’s explained that there are actually a number of patterns and factors that are at play in almost every trend, ranging from the spread of diseases to a popularity of a particular children’s television show. If you analyze the evolution of any major phenomenon, the author suggests, you will find that these processes involved are very similar.:
Recommended Books: The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead
The first book of the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. The book starts with Rose Hathaway returning to her school, St. Vladimir’s Academy, with her best friend Lissa Drogmir, a Moroi Vampire Princess. Rose is a Dhamphir, a half-human and half-Moroi, who has been Lissa’s bodyguard while they were on the run for 2 years. Now back at school, Rose and Lissa will have to resume their duties, training as a Moroi bodyguard and learning of Moroi powers respectively.
All I can describe this book is KICK ASS. With Rose’s character, there’s so much female empowerment that I admire and the curriculem in school are interesting as the school teaches on how to body guard you Moroi and even being a safe Moroi yourself. A definite recommended red for those who can’t get enough of this vamp-craze phenomenon. And this is just the beginning. Richelle Mead has published 4 books and 2 more still are in works with one of them coming out in May 2010. I’ve read ll 4 and I seriously can’t wait for the next one.

Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn’t, but if he was sane he had to fly them.
I’m actually pretty interested with World War II events, having studied it and picked up on it at an early age. Hence my choice in reading Catch-22. It talks about the story of Yossarian, a bombardier, as he works for the US Air Force during World War II. He gets increasingly paranoid as the war carries on, because people whom he doesn’t know are trying to kill him.
Peppered with dry humour and based on the logic paradox that has been titled Catch-22 as well, I strongly recommend this read to anyone who is up for a fast-paced, war-based novel. I’m actually only halfway through the novel but I’m enjoying it a lot so far.
Recommended read: The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger

I was half in love with her by the time we sat down. That’s the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they’re not much to look at, or even if they’re sort of stupid, you fall half in love with them, and then you never know where you hell you are. Girls.
Having read this book before the famously reclusive author J.D. Salinger passed on a month ago, it jumped the list to make it into one of my most treasured books ever. In fact, I think I was pretty lucky to get my hands on a copy of the book with the original cover (above).
It was one of the most controversial novels of the 20th century as it documented two, maybe three, days of a teenage schoolboy named Holden Caulfield. He was a character that composed of all the characteristics of a typical teenager in 1950s America. As Singapore gets more Westernized, I find Holden’s personality more and more applicable in the teenagers of today’s society.
Ultimately, the controversy caused by Holden was that numerous murderers have been connected to the novel, including Mark David Chapman (who shot John Lennon). While some may argue that this piece of work is overhyped and overrated, you might want to judge it for yourself.
