Breaking Dawn News – Part 2 of The Exclusive Fansites interview with Bill Condon

The Twilight Fansites namely: TwilightLexicon,TwiSource, TSTPodcast, TwilightMOMS, TwiExaminer & Twilighters Anonymous asked very good questions and had more or less cleared up a lot of stuff for us fans.

They’ve also managed to get Bill Condon to share some great stories about what happened behind the scenes and the filming of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 & 2.

A JOB AWESOMELY DONE!

Thank you to Twilight Lexicon for the following transcripts of the interview. For MORE please click this line.

Q: How was it filming both movies at the same time, ‘cause it’s your first time doing this? How was that?

BC: Yeah. Better than if we’d done it in 3D, the way we were thinking.

(laughter)

Yeah that was my question! Was: are you really doing it in 3D? ‘Cause that rumor’s been out there for so long.

BC: No, no.

Oh thank you.

BC: We were gonna do the second movie in 3D. There was a good idea behind that, which was: okay she wakes up as a vampire, now let’s see the world differently.

It’s a new dimension for her.

BC: But that wouldn’t have been—it wouldn’t have been just cheesy, but we would have gone crazy.

(laughter)

BC: I think we’re all grateful now. Yeah.

I can never see 3D movies. They just give me a headache so thank you. Thank you so much!

BC: I know. Yeah, no me too. I get a headache just from the tutorial.

(laughter)

BC: But yeah—so it was—I found it was not hard—it was harder on Kristen, I think, more than anybody but she stepped up. But not only to have to go from “oh my God, I’m high school graduate Bella” [to] “oh now I’m kind of intense momma vampire” in the same day! Not only that was a psychological challenge but also physically. I mean she had to—the vampire makeup was two hours. God help her, the pregnant, late term Bella was three hours prosthetics, and sometimes she’d be jumping back and forth between those things. So she was a real trooper, you know. I think it fell on her shoulders more than anybody else’s.

Q: Well, and we’re talking a lot about the serious stuff, and in the clip we saw we got to see some comedic relief from some of the Cullens. (in a pre-wedding scene Alice is barking orders at the family who are moving around large trees)I, and I think a lot fans, are really wanting to know is there going to be some comedic relief with the whole Rosalie/Jacob thing while Bella’s pregnant? Is it—even the trailer’s really serious, which I love—

BC: Yeah, yeah.

—but in the book there’s a lot of comedic relief that I think fans love, and is that going to be in the movie?

BC: Yeah. Yeah, there’s definitely a lot of comedy in the movie.

Good.

Q: I have a question. Melissa Rosenberg, when she was talking about the birth scene, she always kind of said something to the effect of “Well, I wrote it and now it’s up to Bill how he wants to do it”. And I was kind of wondering, what do you have to add to that?

BC: In terms of the birth?

Yeah. What did you see? Like how did you see doing it?

BC: Again, the basic idea there was—went back to the approach of the novel which is let’s have her give birth and only see what she can see. So it’s all from her point of view, right? And for me, that allows us to do things like oh my God, he’s coming back into frame and he’s got blood on his teeth! He just bit through something. And if you know what he bit through then you know, but if you don’t, you don’t, you know? So it’s like—it gives—I think for people who know it intimately it gives us that moment: “oh my God, the baby’s just bitten her”. But we don’t see it, you know. It’s only what she can see. So that was the approach there.

Q: I have a question about the leaked photos that came out.

BC: Yeah.

Did you have to change anything because of the leak?

BC: No, we’ve kind of just ignored it.

You ignored it?

BC: Yeah.

Q: So building a relationship with your cast members, and obviously, your crew and all that, what was your favorite aspect of building with the team?

BC: You know what? I think it was with the actors, being able to really spend weeks and weeks before we started talking through the scripts over, and over, and over again, you know. Um, and especially Kristen who knows it so well and she feels such a strong like burden of responsibility to live up to what the fan—she’s a fan, you know. She [said] “I cried when I read this [the] first time. I wanna make sure that people [cry]”, you know. So that when she’s walking down the aisle at the wedding, you can’t believe what she puts herself through to make sure she gets into the state that’s gonna make—like open her up to all of the feelings that Bella’s feeling at that moment. It’s really amazing to watch. So that, I think, more than anything, you know. And I always think with Kristen too—sometimes she gets a bad rap for—like she seems like she’s a little, you know, unfriendly and things like that. I think that it’s all just—it’s her—she’s so tough on herself and that’s all it is.

She’s so great one-on-one.

BC: Yeah, yeah.

Q: Any favorite moment on set? Like a favorite moment on there?

BC: Oh gosh.

(laughter)

Q: Tell us about the dance off, what happened? ( the actors on Twitter kept referring to the Breaking Dawn Dance Battle)

BC: Oh yeah, that thing. You heard about that, right? That was amazing. God, I’ve never been surprised on a set like that ever.

Q: Is that gonna make the DVD?

BC: I would think so, yeah. I would think so.

JM: It will, because we knew it was happening and he didn’t know but I knew, and we T-ed up all the DVD documentary guys. It’s like “this is happening” and we had all these cameras going.

Thank you.

‘Cause all the fans wanna know that. Everyone tweeted about it so much.

BC: Just the part of me dancing won’t be on there.

(laughter)

Q: Next to Catherine Hardwicke, you probably had the larger shot of casting.

BC: Yes, it’s true. Yeah.

I mean just compared to—I mean just everybody else, you know there was the wolf pack—

BC: Yeah, like 70 of them.

One of my favorite movies is Jerry Maguire with the line, “You had me at ‘hello’”. Was there anybody in that casting process that maybe you didn’t know and then you were just like, “Whoa, you had me at ‘hello’!” Who was your—

BC: You know who? Mackenzie Phillips. I mean—Foy…Mackenzie.

(laughter)

BC: She’s a perfect, perfect—yeah, [inaudible] Mackenzie Foy. Mackenzie Foy was like, wow that’s it. She looks like their daughter and there’s just a quality she had, you know. I mean and it was such a relief because Renesmee was so tough to picture and imagine, you know? So I have to say she was just like, I think we’ve got it right there ‘cause it’s possible. And then I showed her to everybody else and everybody agreed.

Q: How were the auditions for the new cast members?

BC:
The auditions?

Yeah. How you chose them?

BC: You know some of them came in, some of them were on tape. All of that, you know. And then—

I guess it’s a lot.

BC: A lot, yeah I know. We, yeah…but we had a great casting director, Debbie Zane, who I worked with a lot. She really did a wonderful job sort of tracking everybody around the world.

Q: Going back to Renesmee, it was such a big thing, like Stephenie always said…I think when Breaking Dawn the book came out, she said, “You know, I don’t know if the technology will be advanced enough by the time the film comes out”. How did you approach that? Like was that a daunting thing, were you excited to do it? How did you approach Renesmee as a character?

BC: Yeah, it was a little scary at first just ‘cause it is all that dots on people’s faces and helmets and things like that. But it was—it actually turned out to be fun. Mackenzie was there all the time to sort of provide the model for whatever size girl was playing the part. And then weirdly enough, the three-year old, four-year old, they all have their different personalities and they were all kinda good, you know. So actually you sort of fall in love with aspects of different girls all the way through. But we’re just—there’s John Bruno (he walks into the room), who’s our visual effects supervisor, the legend.

Say hello, John.

(laughter)

BC: But we haven’t done any of that yet ‘cause it’s movie two, so it’ll be fascinating to see when it actually starts, to see if it works.

Q: A lot of directors get this glazed look in their eye when people say, “What is your biggest Twilight movie challenge?” And they go like this [runs hand through hair with hellish exasperated look], and they go, “The weather.” You probably were the person who’s had to spend the least amount of time in the Pacific Northwest; so I’m just curious, were you warned beforehand that the biggest challenge was the weather?

(laughter)

BC: Yes. Because we were up there for a third of the schedule but we shot every interior in Baton Rouge so we had to be outside everyday. And we had nowhere to go when it was raining, which was everyday. So that was a huge challenge, absolutely. The most amazing thing was it was April 15, it was the last night of shooting, we looked up and it was snowing.

(laughter)

You can’t—you can hide rain, you can’t hide snow. We were just like, “Oh my God, what are we gonna do?” And then suddenly, you know, like an hour later it stopped. But, you know…

Q: Was the weather problematic at all in Brazil, too? I mean I’m thinking of the water and—

BC: Yes.

(laughter)

BC: No, that was a pretty—you know we were on this island near Paraty, sorta 45 minutes available just by boat, and at the end of our, I think, second, maybe third, night of shooting we go to get in our boats to go back to the village and there’s a storm, which turns into a typhoon and we’re stuck there all night. It’s 80 people on the floor, and one bottle of vodka that they found in the wine closet!

Oh no! (laughter)

JM: Sleeping on the floor of the set.

BC:
Sleeping on the floor of the set. We were all—Stephenie was on a huge mattress and we’d hang around her for awhile. It was amazing, yeah so…

Q: How was your visit to Brazil did you get to know some cities? What did you do in your spare time?

BC: In Rio?

Yeah, in Rio.

BC: Well, it was great ‘cause the film festival was going on there at that time so I got to—

In Paraty, right?

BC: No, no in Rio. When we were prepping in Rio ‘cause we shot in Rio too.

Oh, you shot in Paraty and Rio.

BC: That’s right. So I got to hang out with some filmmakers who were there and that was sorta just a nice way to get like a glimpse of the film community there.

Breaking Dawn News – Fansites COOL interview with Bill Condon MUST READ!

In June Twilight Fansites namely: TwilightLexicon,TwiSource, TSTPodcast, TwilightMOMS, TwiExaminer & Twilighters Anonymous were invited to interview the Director of The Twilight Saga: Part 1 & Part 1 – Bill Condon at the Editing Room (!!)

Here’s part of the transcript of the Part 1 of the interview from Twilight Lexicon. Please head on to Twilight Lexicon for the FULL INTERVIEW.

Q: How familiar with the series were you before you decided to pop into the last installment?

BC: Right. Pretty familiar, I guess. But not you know—I wouldn’t say I was a student of it but I was aware of them all and had seen them all. But then obviously once I jumped in it was really about Twilight Lexicon and it was the books and rereading and just making sure that we had everything right. You know things like—you saw the—Rob’s thing about( referencing a clip showing a glimpse into Edward’s past where he is at a movie theatre stalking “human monsters” )“I haven’t told you everything about myself” and there was a moment when I moved away from Carlisle. That’s only one line I think in the first book, you know, and he’d mentioned it one offhanded comment in one of the movies. But that was an example of something where the first time I met with Rob we had a long great night, many, many, many beers [laughter] and um, he said that one thing that had frustrated him a little is that—I guess that had been more developed in the first book, that was from Edward’s point of view, and it kind of informed the way he was playing the part throughout the whole movie. This sense of self-loathing and guilt that came from having killed humans for that period and yet, it had never been explored in the movies. So it felt like then I went back and looked at the section that described it in Twilight and I felt like, God, what better time right before a wedding to lay out the last objection, you know? And to have it also explain who he’s been, and then in the wedding you’ll see he has a toast where he said—he talks about the fact “to find that one person who can look at you, know everything there is to know about you and still accept you for who you are. I’m ready to move on”. So that being caught in this perpetual 17, and this perpetual kind of—I think you’ll see starting from the moment he gets married he moves on. The performance changes. It’s about him becoming a man. So I think that will be an interesting shift for people, you know? So that—the whole idea of just sort of, between discussions with him, going back finding a line in the first book and then deciding to dramatize that with an episode of him being someone who was on the hunt for human blood felt like something we hadn’t seen before.

Q: Speaking of that scene, I was really interested in the whole black/white dynamic—

BC: Sure.

—and I guess it was a parallel to the Frankenstein movie that was on.(in the scene where Edward is in a movie theater in the 1920’s the film that is playing is Frankenstein in black and white)

BC: I think in a way it was sort of. I mean, there are a lot of levels. One of them is that—I just like the fun that they’re all screaming at Frankenstein and they’ve got Edward in their midst—

(laughter)

BC: —walking behind them, but also, yeah, he’s become the monster in the movie. And actually, the whole movie turns out to be creating his bride. I mean, basically at the end that is what he’s done. Also, the tone of that movie is very similar when you’ve got Aro cackling—it’s similar tonally to a movie like that, and then finally the black and white thing that we do there is just like—as he kills people the color goes away and then it comes into him. So just a film language way to kind of give that sense, you know.

Q: Should we expect to see a lot of that kind of playing with new dimensions that we haven’t seen before in the other [films]?

BC: Yeah, I think so. You know why I think? Because in this movie it’s Jacob, in the next movie it’s Bella. You know as that surprising thing that Stephenie did in the book where having told the story through Bella’s point of view, then suddenly she shifted to Jacob’s point of view in the middle, and then you’re back to Bella’s. In this movie you do—there is this chunk of movie where you get inside the head of what it’s like to be a wolf. So that involves a certain stylization. And then in the next movie, the big change is we’ve been watching these vampires from Bella’s point of view but now it’s like we—because we are her—now it’s like you’re inside what it’s like to be a vampire. What it’s like to move that fast. What it’s like to have those powers. What it looks like. What the world looks like through her eyes. So both of those—they are more—it does become more the point of view of those characters and you get more—it’s more immersive, I think, and that involves a certain kind of stylization.

Q: I love that you’re talking point of view. I mean one of the things that I really love and that other people love too about the movies is that because the books are first person, either from Bella’s point of view or Jacob’s point of view, that now you get to expand out into that scene in Volterra—

BC: That’s right. Yes.

—and you get to see that total—what you only can imagine is occurring. How much collaboration did you have with Stephenie Meyer on those sort of alternate point of view moments that you don’t see in the books, but clearly were happening to get everything to spin.

BC: Right. Well, I think my kind of most intense collaboration was with Melissa Rosenberg—Stephenie was there and part of it all the time, and then—but we were the ones who sort of day-by-day, once I got involved in a rough outline form, we would be there kind of shaping what the scripts would be, and then Stephenie, along with the other producers, would have comments and things like that. Obviously, she’s this great resource that we would go to all the time.

Q: So how much collaboration did you do on the day to day script writing? I mean after doing Chicago and doing Dreamgirls as a screenwriter, I was wondering how’s the adaptation different going from a musical to a movie to going from this large volume of a book to a movie?

BC: Right, which I’d done before too. Gods and Monsters was an adaptation of a book, so that was something, but Melissa wrote these scripts—*his phone rings* Excuse me, this is her right now—

(laughter)

—which was great ‘cause I mean you know I jumped into this in March or April or something and we were shooting—you know if you’re prepping two movies and all that stuff—so it was sort of just—it was kind of overwhelming right there in the beginning. So Melissa, who knew it so well and is such a solid, strong writer—we would collaborate and talk through scene after scene after scene, structure, all that stuff, and then she’d come back. And it was really very, as I said, very intense for several months. But it was her. It was her knowing the stuff inside out…and creating. She’s done a lot of creating too on these movies.

Q: Speaking of Melissa and Stephenie, I think it was you that pointed out the cameo first—

BC: Oh right! Yeah.

It was Laura from the Lexicon.(room points at Laura)

Q: What—how did that come about? Who’s idea was that?

BC: Um, I kinda like nudged them all into doing it.

(laughter)

BC: And I stuck them in the back so you could see them as Bella’s coming down the aisle and get a good glimpse of them, you know.

Thank you on behalf of all of us!

Stephenie Meyer’s Mini Fansite Junket for Eclipse (Part Two)

Fansite members doing the ' Bree beheading Scene' with Stephenie Meyer

We posted Part ONE of Stephenenie Meyer’s Exclusive Fansite Junket  last month and here’s the continuation. Thanks to Twilight Lexicon and the 4 fansites Twifans, Twilight Source, Twilight Series Theories and Letters to Twilight.

Stephenie: If I were to go ahead with it, he would definitely come up again. After his character sort of warmed he would fit into a rightly place. I don’t see Edward actively seeking him out. Having the knowledge he had gotten from Bree he realizes that Fred probably wouldn’t appreciate that pretty much, but I do see them crossing paths. I was really relieved in a way, I didn’t see anybody surviving. And so as Fred started developing it was really a relief to let someone survive and for someone you care about.

Twilight Series Theories: I just loved the introduction to the book that you did say “I was writing this and I did have a hard time that I made this decision before…” That helped me through.

Stephenie: By the end, you know, when I first started out I didn’t even think about it, I was thinking “this will be cool” it was all about the mechanics of it. And then when you start like “I have to kill her”. On set it was crazy because Jodelle is teeny. She is this little – actually she looked a little younger even though she is fifteen. My Bree in the book was grown up looking because she had a hard life but Jodelle did a really good job. They cut a scene of hers where I really think she captured her. I hope it makes it on the DVD. But, then you have Daniel Cudmore, who is – you can’t even tell in the movies but he is a monster!

Twilight Series Theories: And beautiful. (laughs)

Stephenie: He is so properly proportionate so that if you took a normal six-foot person and you blew them up. He is just so big. I remember the first time I met him I asked him like an idiot “How tall are you?”

(Everyone laughs)

Stephenie: The first time I met him, he was in the full Volturi garb with his eyes. It was impressive. So he was coming over to rip up the little girl and the difference between them was really – it made me sad. And you watch it all day because you shoot the scene in fourteen different ways all day long so they keep killing her over and over again.

Twilight Source: You know, I was saying this to Matt before and I feel like the fact that Bree’s life, how tragic it is in the fact that she dies, is a really juxtaposition to the series that we see from Bella’s perspective. Because, you always hear Edward saying, “This is a really tough life and this is not something that you want to be”.

Stephenie: And no one ever believes him.

What do you think Stephenie thinks of Angryward and Edward threatening Jacob for kissing Bella? Does she agree, does she thinks he’s hot?

Kim: Okay, we have a question about the Angry Edward, and how hot he is. When he gets angry, he pulls up, and he’s like…ya know……if you ever touch her against her will again. All the fans just love it. We all love it and everybody went crazy. The members, our members, we all wanna know about angry Edward.

Alison: Why do you think the fandom thinks Angry Edward is SO hot?

SM: Ya know it’s funny about this scene, and Meghan’s giving me the eye. That’s the one I walked out on, on the dailies because in my head that scene was so much different. In the movie Edward is quite separate motivation-ally from the book Edward. At this point in the film in the story for me he’s gotten past this. Like he’s realized “I can’t act like a teenage boy anymore. I have to give her space. I have to be the mature one here.” And in that scene in the book, he has, icy calm control. He is very gentle. He is very soft spoken. He is very mature. So when I see him….and plus ya know, the movies are unable to bring to life some of the elements in the mythology. If Edward had, in anger, grabbed Jacob by the shoulder, his arm would have come off. And the fact that Taylor is uninjured, and that he just kind of sits there…..bothered me. So I’m like…wait! If we are gonna go for it, tear his arm off. Ya know. And it’s hard for them, because blood puts you over the limit and stuff, and they would not tear off Jacob’s arm. I’m like….if we want angry Edward, I wanna see some blood. They had already filmed that day, so we couldn’t redo it but, people have responded really well to it.

Kim: That is the thing because it is different than the book.

Alison: He’s as close to a vampire as we’ve seen him, because he was so restrained.

SM: And restraint is pretty much his middle name. And we don’t have the scene early in the book, where she comes back from La Push, and he’s like “are you trying to make me insane?” He really lost it. We don’t have that evolution where he goes overboard. We have a little bit, the battery disabling. Which is really over the line, and then he’s supposed to learn and he’s supposed to stop. By that point, we’re so far in, it’s like….”why is he still acting like this?” But okay, it is hot…I’ll give you that.

Kim: It turned out well considering it was a deviation from the book, and anyway……we liked it.

Often scenes from the books are changed or left out all together for the flow of the movie. Stephenie explains how and why she picks her battles when it comes to depicting her books into movies.

LTT: When do you choose your battles? In seeing the movie and the book. You have the book, they have a vision. They throw out a line, and you’re like “They would have never
said that”

SM: It’s really difficult. Because you do have to choose which ones you won’t bow down on. And I know that even when I really say “Okay, I cannot live with that” It’s still 1 out of 10 I’ll get it. When I really throw a fit. Which is rare. It is really rare because I realize ya know, they’re making a movie. When they come to me for advice, I’m happy say things. There are very few things that I will….and its things that just feel so wrong, that there’s no other way. And some of them are such small little things that, like with the…(?) we were talking about. A lot of that was (?) related. It’s harder than you would
think. It’s funny. Some things you take for granted in movies. And it’s amazing how difficult
some things are to do. One of the reasons we were back there was because, there was one blocking issue I had. And nobody else cared, but for me, it was such a key blocking thing. It physically had to look this way. That one, I was like “I really have to have this. I can’t see this like this” & everyone was like really?

Alison: All the fans would have cared. Not one fan would have been happy with that.

Kim: Was that with the tent scene?

Alison: We heard he was sitting up, and……now. La,la,la….he’s laying down.

SM: Lying down, no that’s not it

Alison: Oh, okay

SM: It’s when they are in the sleeping bag together. How do you visualize that?

Alison: Sexy hot

SM: In the original

TST: Don’t ruin the surprise

SM: That’s the expectation

Alison: The surprise would have been, what it was

SM: The one thing I scheduled my whole schedule around in Eclipse was I had to be there for
the tent scene was number one. That was on the calendar. And I had the other scenes in
order of priority, and I had those dates booked. I was already going to Vancouver and they had a weather problem. They filmed it when I wasn’t there. So I’m like “Okay, I’m not gonna panic.” But in the original version, Jacob gets into the sleeping bag (whispers) and doesn’t touch her.

Alison: Like just his legs are gonna keep her warm from the bottom of the sleeping bag?

*chatter*

SM: It’s impossible to keep someone warm when doing that. And then you have the extra added thing. This is the girl he is in love with and he’s in a sleeping bag with her….I mean, come on. I was just
like, “what…why aren’t you touching her? Why isn’t he touching her?” People are going to freak out.

Alison: Everybody would have freaked out

SM: It doesn’t make sense that he would do that and you’d sit there and say “why? He’s supposed to be warming her up, right?” Even if you had no baggage from reading the books, you would still have the same reaction.

Alison: It’s almost like…..common sense (a bunch of mumbling) It’s great now!

*chatter*

Kim: The re-shoot worked. It was great. The emotion that was in the book was in that scene.

SM: It was interesting, because the original script for it, I was fine with but then they tweaked the script because they felt like one part of the conversation got a lot more in depth in the original we kind of already knew. You know, you have the whole rehash when Edward’s talking about “when I first met her” and they pulled that and instead went with the later part of the scene where Jacob’s like “how did you cope?” And I think the emotionality of it just went through the roof.

Kim: The dialogue between Rob and Jake, I mean Edward and Jacob

Alison: And it was so long, and I loved how long it was

SM: Yeah! I love that they just let it happen. I think that, that was Rob’s best day of shooting.
It was so funny, did you guys hear all the rumors about the problems? Rob was only supposed to be there for the last day. The first two were Jacob and Bella scenes where the wig had been a problem. The last day was the tent was the tent and that was it & it was a pretty easy shoot. The only problem for that day was that Kristen had the stomach flu and luckily, she was supposed to lay there, but between every like scene, oh, she was so sick. And Taylor, he was over digging around, grabbing garbage cans. Why is Taylor taking the garbage? Takes them over there so she could puke in them.
It was so sweet. Everybody was taking care of her and everything, but it was a hard day. You look at actors and a lot of people are like “I wanna be an actor” it’s so hard and then to sit there. She’s wanting to puke and she’s all feverish, and she’s having to do the shivering. She was a work horse that day. That was our only drama was that poor Kristen got sick, and I think it was food poisoning. But it was a great shoot. It was one of those days where at the end you’re like “We really killed it today! It’s gonna be great!” It was a great day.

Check out the screen caps we posted of Kristen & Sezairi here.

Robert Pattison & Taylor Lautner gave us another shoutout (kinda :P ) again this year so that was cool.

Sezairi didn`t manage to ask the cast to come to Singapore BUT at least the Twilight cast know that there are a few fans here.

Not as many as our neighbours in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan etc for them to even consider coming here but at least they know we exist.

HAHA Thanks again for the Shoutout !!!

Eclipse News – 20 New Eclipse publicity images & One from Volvo

Twilight Lexicon has posted 20 news images from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, they’ve also posted these publicity stills on their Facebook page.

Here’s a few of the stills and head on to the Twilight Lexicon Facebook to see MORE!!

And finally here is the Volvo Eclipse Poster

Eclipse News – Twilight Lexicon’s Eclipse review

Alphie from Twilight Lexicon has posted her review of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse which she watched together with a  bunch of fans during the screening for The Oprah Show.

Yes! All of us ‘WOOHOOOed’ with what she wrote! She also talked about the special effects and the wigs that we worried so much about.

***SPOILER ALERT! PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!***

Let me reassure those of you who still doubt the romance of the film that it is there.  It is so totally there!  Every kiss you expect to see is there.  Every moment of longing and confusion is there.  From marriage proposals to leg hitches, it’s all there… and then some.  The chemistry is hotter than ever.  No need to worry about this side of the film.

Those of you that have missed the Cullens in the first two movies will not be disappointed.  All the Cullens get more screen time, with the obvious emphasis on Rosalie and Jasper and their back stories.  It was really quite fantastic to see them playing their human counterparts, and then to see both of them as red eyed vampires.  The flashbacks were some of my favorite moments of the film.

Wolf pack fans, you get a treat, too.  The scene that comes from chapter 11 of Eclipse (Legends) is very well done.  Even though the CG on the wolves wasn’t finished, I felt there was more emotion and characterization in the wolves this time around than in New Moon.  The new additions to the pack are played exactly as you expect.  The crowd gave a sweet “awwww” when we first met Seth in the film.  Booboo Stewart is so spot on Seth that you can’ t help but smile at him.  Julia Jones is as bitter and edgy as Leah should be.

Head on over to Twilight Lexicon for more!

Eclipse News

Oprah will  be having The Twilight Saga: Eclipse cast members on her show to be broadcasted on 13th May, 2010. BUT the taping of the show was done yesterday and we’re hearing A LOT and seeing A LOT of cool stuff from that show!

Sample A:

Here’s what the fans who attended the Oprah taping got! Thanks RobPattzNews!

Sample B:

Here are tweets and a fan account from the audience after the taping!

RT @Courtneex3: Rob was hilarious in the video they showed of him going to random peoples houses lol! He’s like “should I just break in?”

RT @Courtneex3: Soo that was AMAZING! Rob was SO funny! Dakota fanning was also there. Wow that did not just happen.

RT @Nicolediscogrll: Our gift was Bellas Engagement ring and we got interviewed by US weekly. Buy it next week!

RT @Nicolediscogrll: #Oprah: I was there. Robs havin Kristens baby, Taylor likes dorky girls (yes!), Taylor & Rob say they have no friends

RT @natalie0118: Oh and there was no time for questions so no audience questions were asked.

It’s going to be a painful wait - more than a week- to watch Rob and cast spill *we hope* Eclipse details on Oprah. The segment was taped today, but will air May 13.. which also happens to be Rob’s Birthday!

@vivian_ortiz was there, and shared the scoop with us! (a little preview to get us by)

We got in line at around 5:15 this morning and waited for the studio to open its doors. Once we were let in, we were checked in and then had to wait in a room. When we were finally seated there was a “practice rehearsal” type thing. Oprah walked on stage without her shoes on. Someone came out and put her shoes on for her :) Rob, Kristen, and Taylor walked out and it was just insane. People were cheering, screaming, almost crying. There was a series of clips from both New Moon and Eclipse. Oprah announced that both Rob and Taylor went to homes last night to surprise lucky fans! Watching those clips was funny! When asked about whether or not they were dating, Rob said Kristen was pregnant. :D It seemed like the filming went by so fast. Taylor’s parents were there too! Towards the end, Dakota came out. Our gift was a certificate for Bella’s engagement ring from Infinite Jewlery Co.

Vivian was also at the Eclipse screening last night, and she wrote up a review with details. Thanks so much for sharing with fans! - And check out our wrap of today’s taping, that includes a first look at a new Eclipse poster.

Alphie from Twilight Lexicon was also in the audience at Oprah. Check out her write up here!

The wait wasn’t very long to get into the theatre and the Harpo staff did everything possible to make sure you were comfortable, that you understood any regulations or directions, and that you had a clear idea of where to go and what to do. It was so well organized and efficient. I can’t rave enough about the staff and how well they did their jobs today! So here’s a big thank you to the staff at Harpo!

Now, I want you to know that my excitement over the taping of the show was always there, but it didn’t really, REALLY hit me until we were actually guided into the studio to take our seats. We came around the corner and saw the stage set up, which gave me my first jolt of “Oh my gosh, this is really happening!” But it was when I saw the Oprah logo written out in the Twilight font that I actually squealed a bit.

…I don’t want to spoil what was in the episode by giving too many details, but I will tell you that you definitely want to tune in! You’ll see some perfectly wonderful fan reactions to big surprises as well as a few things from Eclipse that haven’t been shown before. Robert, Taylor, Kristen, and Dakota each have some great memorable moments that you won’t want to miss. So, be sure to set your DVRs for May 13!

MTV’s Hollywood Crush has a round up of reviews & reactions of fans at the Oprah show who were given a screening of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse – the unfinished and rough cut version. Lucky people!!

Yes, you read that right. Some “Twilight” fans have already seen “Eclipse,” and they probably aren’t you. But Twi-hards aren’t the greedy type, and quickly took to Twitter to share their wealth of information with the world. In between the “OME!!”s and drooling, we were able to pick out some pretty interesting information that of course we are going to share with you.

There had been some concern after the final “Eclipse” trailer premiered that this third installment in the “Twilight Saga” would sacrifice the love story for the action (apparently everyone forgot the first trailer, which showed us otherwise). The unanimous response was that the love story is definitely still there, and it is very hot and heavy. This means, yes, the leg hitch, the tent scene and Bella and Jacob’s kiss all make the final cut, and, as one Twitter user claimed, were enough to “get her turned on.” And yes, the scene where Bella punches Jacob is also included, though we never doubted that it wouldn’t be in the film.

But that doesn’t mean that the action wasn’t great either. This was an early cut of the film so some of the animation was still a bit off, but everyone seemed to think that it was the best action of the series. The fact Jasper was featured quickly but clearly in the second trailer’s fight scene tipped us off to the fact that he and Alice were going to be pretty prominent in the action sequences, but apparently they get a lot more face time throughout the entire film, and actually get a chance to really interact with each other. Unfortunately, Jackson Rathbone‘s wig is supposed to be pretty bad, but Kristen’s is better since the first trailer.

Eclipse News – Eclipse Trailer talk!

Good morning Saturday! Overnight, exciting stuffs happened: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse final trailer was revealed!

And if you’re up so early today reading this, why not join The Twilight Saga: LIVE VIDEO CHAT with Bryce, Nikki, and Julia!

So, what other things have you missed?

Twilight Examiner compares the quotes featured in the Eclipse final trailer and Stephenie Meyer’s Eclipse:

Trailer: “Jacob what are you doing?” Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan.
Book: There was no direct quote from Bella like this because Edward is the first to address Jacob, but her first words to Jacob in this scene were as follows: “What are you talking about?” Bella Swan, Page 78.

Anyway, here’s what we think : Don’t break down the trailer too much :D  Save it for the real thing on 1st July 2010 when the Eclipse hits Singapore!

Screencaps for your viewing pleasure via Twilight Examiner!

The Hillywood Show is well known for their awesome Twilight parodies. Check out their reaction to the trailer while waiting backstage to open the Official Twilight Convention in VA! – via Twilight Lexicon.

Meanwhile, MTV did a play-by-play of the newly released Eclipse final trailer:

Shot 1: Establishing shot of the La Push/ Forks area. Ain’t it pretty?

Shot 2: A dire-looking Jacob Black, walking toward the camera.

Shot 3: “Jacob,” Bella asks, standing next to Edward. “What are you doing here?”

Shot 4: “I’m here to warn you,” he responds.

Shot 5: A close-up of a pale-but-earnest Edward, ready to throw down with the wolf-man. “Just leave,” he says. “Now.”

Shot 6: “She has a right to know,” Jacob responds, eliciting a look of concern from Bella and a simple “What?” that will soon open an entire Pandora’s box of drama.

Shot 7: Welcome to the city! “We’ve been tracking this situation in Seattle for a while,” Edward says over a shot of the metropolis, a very different sight for a “Twilight” film.

Also, Fearnet shares with us what 8 things that they love from the Eclipse trailer.

Here’s #1:

David Slade’s dark and gloomy Seattle
With that aerial shot of rainy downtown Seattle, Slade opens up the Twilight world beyond the small town scope of Forks and Quileute country. Even during the span of the trailer, stakes feel higher than before, especially since more emphasis is placed on the killings in Seattle than there was in the book, where Bella’s life was always front and center. Whether it’s Riley being attacked in a darkened alley or later, leading a pack of newborns as they crawl insidiously over logs and machinery to gather at the dock, you already feel the tension mounting towards the big showdown between the Cullens, the wolves, and Victoria.

New Novella by Stephenie Meyer: Bree’s Story

No.ve.la (noun, plural): a fictional prose narrative that is longer and more complex than a short story; a short novel. [As defined from Dictionary.com]

That’s right! Stephenie Meyer has written a short novel on the life of Bree Tanner! For those who are clueless to who Bree Tanner is, she is one of the characters in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse novel whom The Cullens encountered during the last few chapters.

We were anticipating for the The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide but Stephenie Meyer had a reason why it was delayed:

“I’m as surprised as anyone about this novella,” said Stephenie Meyer. “When I began working on it in 2005, it was simply an exercise to help me examine the other side of Eclipse, which I was editing at the time. I thought it might end up as a short story that I could include on my website. Then, when work started on The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, I thought the Guide would be a good fit for my Bree story. However, the story grew longer than I anticipated, until it was too long to fit into the Guide.”
As a special thank you to fans, Meyer is giving them exclusive access to the novel on a dedicated website, www.breetanner.com, from June 7 to July 5, 2010 where fans from around the world will be able to read the book online in English. “I’d always considered The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner as something for the fans,” said Meyer. “They have been so supportive of all things Twilight.”

You can read more about the novella over at Twilight Lexicon and also at Stephenie’s own website! And don’t forget that starting from noon from June 7th to July 5th, the novella will be available online on www.breetanner.com as a thank you from Stephenie to her fans! We definitely can’t wait!!

Twilight News

In July last year we posted the news about the Twilight manga or the Twilight Graphic Novel which EW reported well they’ve got an update on it. Here’s the cover!

I’m delighted to announce, exclusively, that Yen Press will publish Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Vol. 1 on March 16, with a first printing of 350,000 copies.  Here’s a first glimpse at the book’s cover, as well as an exclusive peek at one of its panels (for a full ten-page excerpt, and the entire Q&A with Stephenie Meyer, see the issue of EW that goes on sale this Friday).

What strikes me, looking at the book, is how faithfully, and how beautifully, artist Young Kim has translated Meyer’s original vision. Kim, who has a fine arts background—in fact, this is her first foray into graphic novels—didn’t just read the book; she absorbed it. Her Bella is the Bella I had in my mind’s eye the first time I read Twilight; her Edward is the Edward I always imagined. It took me back to reading Twilight pre-movie: Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson faded into the background.

Meyer talked to us about all this, and more. Here are a few snippets from our conversation:

The text of your original novel is boiled down so carefully that it doesn’t feel like anything is missing. Were you the one who did that?

I was definitely involved.  I didn’t do the original “script” for the book, so to speak.  But when I got the dialogue with the images, I did a lot of tinkering. In a couple of places, I asked for missing scenes to be inserted.  For example, the conversation in the car that Bella and Edward have after she faints in Biology.

How does the feeling of reading the graphic novel compare to that of reading the original? Does it bring something new to the experience for you?

For me, it takes me back to the days when I was writing Twilight.  It’s been a while since I was really able to read Twilight; there is so much baggage attached to that book for me now.  It seems like all I can see are the mistakes in the writing.  Reading Young’s version brought me back to the feeling I had when I was writing and it was just me and the characters again.  I love that.  I thank her for it.

Read more and check out the sneak preview of the book at EW!

Twilight Lexicon has reported that you can actually Pre-Order your copy at Amazon! And they’re also posted the official press release from Little, Brown about the graphic novel.

As is typical in graphic novel publishing, due to the length of the prose novel, the book will be divided into two volumes and the release date for the second volume is forthcoming.

Twilight: The Graphic Novel contains selected text from Meyer’s original novel with illustrations by Korean artist Young Kim.  A rare fusion of Asian and Western comic techniques is reflected in this black-and-white graphic novel with color interspersed throughout.  Meyer consulted throughout the artistic process and had input on every panel.

Read it all at Twilight Lex.

New Moon News (Updated)

This is new – SNL Parody with Taylor Swift. LOL!

If you can’t watch the embedded video above, try this one:

Twilight fansites interviewed Alex Meraz and Edi Gathegi. You can read the full interview at Twilight Lexicon. Here’s an extract:

Q: I wanted to know, now Edi you play someone that’s actually a bad guy, and then Alex you’re playing someone who’s kind of misunderstood but comes across as mean, and I was wondering where you guys draw that energy from to come across that way on film?

Laurent

Edi: Well if Alex’s character is misunderstood, then I want my character to be misunderstood. [Laughs] My character is a vampire, and they eat people, and he wants to eat Bella, and that doesn’t make him a bad guy.
[Alex laughs.]

Edi: He’s just, he’s just doing what nature intended him to do, and it’s actually … he’s not apologetic but he’s explaining, you know, why he must do what he has to do. And I think that’s interpreted as being the evil and bad because the heroes of our stories are vegetarians.

Paul

Alex: Which is funny because here’s two characters that both try to kill Bella, so that’s pretty good.

Edi: Yeah, your character tries to go after her …

Alex: … but my character, I think he has a sense of pride, you know? For his culture, for the land … and he just does whatever it takes to protect the land, and when Bella – at first, when I turn to try to kill her – she’s just an outsider. I don’t think she belongs there, and she’s bringing nothing but trouble so it’s just a thick sense of pride that’s really what Paul feels.

New Moon News (Updated)

There was a New Moon Pre-Screening Press Conference last night while we’re sleeping here in Singapore and everyone who watched the movie loved what they saw! Twilight Lexicon has always been so kind and they have compiled the list of Twitters regarding the New Moon Pre-Screening Press Conference.

Getting ready for the press conference to begin (Woots!):

More photos available at Celebuzz.

*Spoilers beware* People.com tells us the TOP 5 Best Things About New Moon:

  1. Jacob’s Black Body: Photos of Taylor Lautner‘s amazing transformation from a scrawny kid to a rippling teen werewolf already have been making the rounds for months. But the first time Lautner rips off his T-shirt to reveal his muscled chest onscreen, the sight is still gasp-worthy. In fact, Lautner sizzles and smolders throughout New Moon as he walks the line between friendship and romance with Bella (Kristen Stewart). Though Bella’s heart belongs to Edward (Robert Pattinson), Launter may steal Pattinson’s heartthrob status right out from under his pale nose.
  2. Bella & Edward’s Reunion: When Edward comes to the (incorrect) conclusion that his love, Bella, is dead, he decides there is no choice but to commit vampire suicide. Of course, the only person who can save him is Bella. When she launches herself through a crowd and across a fountain in an Italian square to push Edward out of harm’s way, the sparks that fly between the soul-mates are like fireworks.
  3. The Wolf Pack: The actors who play Jacob Black’s gang of strapping pals provide the perfect mix of teen tension and ferocious loyalty that exist between the group of guys who realize that one and all are actually werewolves. They snarl and yelp, tease and torment each other, and of course, fight together just like Twilight Saga author Stephanie Meyer describes in her series.
  4. Dakota Fanning: She plays the pint-sized vamp, Jane, who wields a daunting power – simply by concentrating she can cause her victims to convulse in excruciating pain. She’s not in the movie for very long, but when she focuses those red eyes on her targets and softly whispers, “Pain,” everyone will squirm.
  5. The Sense of Humour: While the Twilight series is based overwrought teenage angst, director Chris Weitz lightens the mood with some well-placed humor. Bella’s human school friends provide comic relief. When one of them has to leave a horror movie because he’s ill, Launter’s character laughs and says, “What a marshmallow.” And when a member of the wolf pack accidentally changes from human to werewolf right in front of Bella, another member quips, “Well, I guess the wolf is out of the bag.”

Woohoooo Fansite Friday Nummer Fuenf brings us an interview with Mr Chris Weitz! But its only Part I cos the fansites are saving some for next week ;)

Read and listen to the audio recording of the complete Part I Interview at  Twilighters Anonymous, and at the following fansites: Twilight Lexicon, TwilightMoms, TwilightSource, HisGoldenEyes and TwilightSeriesTheories.

Was it intimidating coming into a fandom with such intense fans?

Chris : Yeah- I mean on the one hand it is, but on the other hand I really feel like everyone wants the movie to be good and everyone has been very encouraging and supportive there haven’t been… things have felt very positive toward me – of course I have been avoiding the internet because I don’t want to get to caught up -

My responsibility is to the readership, and my responsibility is not to the internet-no matter what you guys are doing- I’m addressing the same people you are but I don’t want to get caught up in any controversy that’s going on online or whatever people have to say about me when I was selected- I did that on Golden Compass once- and there was a vote as to who they would rather have as director and “other” beat me- I didn’t want to be in that situation.

Have you talked to Stephenie Meyer- has she given you any tips?

Chris: Oh yeah we speak all the time. We email back and forth all the time. She’s been to visit the set, and I went down to Arizona to hang out with her. Yeah I’m running stuff past her constantly so that the mythology of the series isn’t violated. I don’t want to pull any fast ones or make any mistakes in terms of things that I present which don’t make sense in her universe. You would have to ask her, I don’t want to make any claims, you’d have to ask her to the degree to which she is satisfied. At least she says to me that she feels the film is very beautiful, and that’s not a credit to me that’s more Javier Aguirresarobe the DP who does absolutely beautiful work. And the idea is to try to make as elegant and beautiful a rendering of the book as possible.

How is the transition from your version to Catherine Hardwicke’s film? Sometimes when directors change there is a big change. You can tell from the style. What kind of style do you bring to this film?

Chris: I think the biggest change would be that I am a bit of an old fogy. I’m old-fashioned and I think Catherine is very “fashion forward” and conscious of a pop sensibility. I am more tied to the old-fashioned romantic films. So that would be, if you were a film nerd, you would notice the palate of the film, the camera work. I am a lot less likely to use hand-held cameras than Catherine Hardwicke is. Things like that, they are more stylistic differences than my kind of “taking it and throwing it away.”

Obviously I owe her a lot, because she cast this great cast [so] I kind of inherited this cool “toolbox” and this extraordinary fan base.

Was there anything from the first film that you felt you had to change?

Chris: No, I don’t. I think the key things that worked with the first movie are the relationships and the feelings of the main characters are the [same] things will work about this. Everything else is just bells and whistles. I mean, there are a lot more special effects in this film so the fact that I had a lot of experience in that area kind of helps. But it shouldn’t feel so different. It shouldn’t suddenly as though you are in an action movie or a visual effects movie. It is wrong if it feels that way. It is only right if the visual effects convey the feeling that is in the books in the first place. The world of the book expands naturally, like with the Volturi. Obviously, they weren’t in the first movie at all but that has been an organic development.

More again Next Friday!! :)

New Moon News

New Moon News (Updated)

Summit and Creation Entertainment’s Official Twilight Convention started on Friday and here are some write-up from MTV regarding the event. First is the general info about the convention – ‘Twilight’ Convention Comes To New Jersey:

Fans At Twilight Convention (New Jersey)

Fans dressing up as their favourite characters.

In between star panels and photo and autograph opportunities, fans have a veritable “Twilight” mall to peruse, with table upon table brimming with vampire- and werewolf-themed merch. Handmade bath products, jewelry, 8×10 star glossies and enough “Twilight” tees to fill a dozen closets are among the many, many items up for grabs. Other entertainment opportunities throughout the weekend include rounds of “Twilight” trivia, panels with “Twilight Lexicon” and “Twilight Mom” bloggers, a meet-and-greet with “Twilight” cover hand model Kimbra Hickey, a charity auction and a Saturday night vampire ball, where guests are encouraged to dress like their favorite character.

Twilight Lexicon was there too and you can read their entry here.

Psst, What happened with Kristen Stewart & Alex Meraz? More details at ‘New Moon’ Actor Went Too Far With Kristen Stewart:

“I decided, all right, the Wolf Pack stay up all night looking for who’s killing people on the res, so we don’t sleep very much. So I thought it would be a great idea if I stayed up for 10 days straight.” What should have been a simple scene — a confrontation between Bella (Stewart) and the Wolf Pack — became, in Meraz’s mind, his “Brando moment.” Wanting to try something different, the actor played the scene overly aggressive: screaming, grabbing Stewart by the throat, hurtling his line at her.

[Director] Chris Weitz comes off-set like, “Yeah, I like the energy Alex, but just take it down a little, ” Spencer chimed in: “Meanwhile the producers are freaking out back there.”

“Cause nobody touches Kristen Stewart”,  joked Meraz.

Lastly, let’s not forget Gil Birmingham as he talks about his responsibility in representing a wheelchair bound person in film. He also mentioned the camaraderie formed between the Wolfpack :D Read it all at MTV.

This week the fansites have an exclusive interview with Taylor Lautner. Thanks to Kara from HisGoldenEyes for writing the transcript. Read it in its entirety and click on the PLAY button to listen to the interview here.

NewMoonJacobTattoo

Q: Do you find it hard to switch between the two personalities- since you do have before the wolfpack and after the wolfpack is it hard to switch when you are doing different scenes?

Taylor: Sometimes you will film a pre transformation Jacob and a post transformation Jacob on the same exact day. So you do have to click over, but it’s really cool because it’s challenging and I like challenging myself as an actor. So I just hope I can bring both sides of Jacob alive for all the fans

Q: What’s been the most challenging so far?

Taylor: It’s the same I would tell ya for the first film: the weather! It’s actually starting to warm up now and it’s a lot nicer than it was at first, but when we got up here towards the end of March it’s snowing and I was like when is this gonna stop! And obviously I’m not wearing that much clothing for most of the film so that doesn’t help either, but the weather is definitely starting to warm up now so that’s nice

Q: What has been your favorite scene to shoot now- or in the future- what are you looking forward to shooting?

Taylor: It’s so hard. I like a lot of the stunt stuff so it’s really cool to do that. The dirt bike scenes, the dirt bike scenes are a lot of fun! And just a lot of stuff in the forest, Jacob gets to show his physicality a little bit more.

Q: Do you get to use your martial arts more?

Taylor: I wouldn’t say martial arts. I think the biggest thing is pre transformation Jacob is very clumsy. He trips over his own feet, and when he transforms into a werewolf he’s very agile all of a sudden. So it’s just kind of…have to show his two separate sides.

What do you want your fans to see from Jacob in this movie?

I want them at the beginning of this film to see this really happy nice sweet guy that they fall in love with- and then all of a sudden POOF! He’s a completely different guy and not even believe it’s the same dude.

Q: What’s your favorite scene so far?
Chaske: The scene where Bella confronts the wolfpack. “It was pretty epic”.

Q: How did the wolf pack bond together?

Chaske: We were all rooming in the same hotel, so we always saw each other. We trained together and hung out together playing basketball. We knew we “needed to be a band of brothers” on screen, so we tried to bond on and off screen. We made sure that we would go to meals together and sit as a family.

What’s this movie like compared to the first movie. What’s the production been like overall?

Gil: It’s much larger [laughs] I’ll tell you that. I don’t know. That’s a good question. How was it different? Being in Vancouver is slightly different. You know the cast members are still like a family. You take a little break, and you’re back together again. So, it picks up where we left off.

You know they found such a great location to-look at that house-(indicates the newly created Bella’s house set) it looks like the other one exactly.

You know I’m not here that much. I just got in this weekend. So this is my first day on-I was here a couple of weeks ago when we did the shoot (speaking of scenes shot at the Black House location). Now I’m here for today and I’m gone tomorrow. So, I don’t know whether I’m in a position to tell you if there is a whole lot of difference.
