Eclipse News – Quileute tribe & Native American actors gets the spotlight thru Eclipse (Twilight) Films
Real tribe gets its due in ‘Twilight’ films

Jones, who plays Leah Clearwater in “Eclipse,” said: “That’s also what excites me, is that we’re being put in front of primarily children and people who are in the process of defining their ideas of what Native Americans are. I think that’s probably the most valuable aspect of the way that Native Americans are portrayed in this film.”
Actor Chaske Spencer sees the “Twilight Saga” as a turning point for American Indians working in Hollywood.
Spencer and co-stars Alex Meraz and Julia Jones play Quileute tribal werewolves who can phase between human and wolf form at will. Despite the supernatural context, the actors see the Quileute portrayal as a well-deserved modernization of American Indian imagery.
“What I like about it is it has brought us to pop culture in a way that’s never been done before in film,” said the Tahlequah, Okla.-born Spencer, who plays Sam Uley in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and has Nez Perce, Sioux and Creek ancestry.
“We’ve been around for a while. I’ve been working for, like, 10 years, and these two have also been around and working, and what I like about it is it’s finally brought us to a place where we’re not always playing with the leather and feather. That’s how we paid our dues,” Spencer said.
“And I like also, and it’s kind of up to the media as well to accept us as other than being just the mystical figures and put on the leather and feather, and speaking like in a ‘rez’ accent all the time – because I’ve done that so many times. And the kids, the kids are more accepting of us than anything else. That’s what’s really cool.”

“And speaking more on that – it’s in a contemporary setting,” said Alex Meraz, who plays Paul. “Like Chaske was saying, leather-and-feather period piece, we don’t have bows and arrows. We don’t even have clothes, though.”
With all that phasing between human and giant wolf, the average Quileute in “Twilight” prefers to go shirtless rather than break the bank buying clothes. But on a serious note, Meraz said the portrayal of the Quileute tribe has brought attention to the real, non-shape-shifting tribe in La Push, Wash.
“The fascinating thing about portraying a tribe that actually does exist is that the stuff (‘Twilight’ series author) Stephenie (Meyer) had taken from the tribe, she kind of mixed it in the realm of fantasy,” said Meraz, whose family originates with the P’urhepecha tribe of northern Mexico.
“But now a lot of people are going to Washington state, they’re going to La Push where the Quileute tribe actually do reside in, and they’re learning more. They’re forced to ask questions, learn more about the culture. And I think that that’s great that they’re getting a spotlight to introduce and to tell the story, the real creation story. That’s important. I think that fans are so into it that they want to learn where this germinated from, the root of where the wolf pack comes from.”

Eclipse News – LA Times ‘Twilight’s’ Wolf Pack
Wooot!! The Twilight Saga: Eclipse movie promotion is slowly gaining momentum!! Yesterday we had LA Times feature our beloved family of ‘vegetarian’ vampires The Cullens and today they’ve done a great write up about ‘Twilight’s’ Wolf Pack!
Although the “Twilight” franchise may have helped spur the vampire craze with the Cullen brood, the saga’s gang of shape-shifters is bringing sexy back to werewolves. And in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” which hits theaters June 30, that’s no different.
“The Cullens are very reserved,” said Alex Meraz, who plays Wolf Pack member Paul. “They’re vampires, but they’re not out killing people. They’re not what they’re meant to be. Whereas the Wolf Pack, we’re through and through animals. We’re frisky. We’re fun. There’s something sexy about that.”
In the third installment of the franchise, the band of brotherly (and sisterly, as we’ll see) hirsute creatures joins forces with its rivals, the Cullens, after Seattle is plagued by a series of killings caused by an army of newborn vampires.

“The fans are going to love this film,” he said. “I didn’t get my chance to touch anybody in ‘New Moon.’ This time I go at it with Emmett [ Kellan Lutz]. I give him a nice bitch slap. But I’m in wolf form, so maybe it’s a big paw slap?
“Oh, and there’s a lot more action. It’s more Paul wolf. You’re going to see my wolf form doing a lot of stuff. You’ll just see me running around shirtless once and a while.”
So what of all those topless scenes?
“I have a newfound respect for women. I have to keep my figure. Girls are telling me to take my shirt off. It’s like, ‘Hello! I’m a person, too!’ “
Julia Jones (Leah Clearwater)
Bryce Dallas Howard isn’t the only new face to join the burgeoning ensemble cast. Jones will make her debut to the franchise as Leah Clearwater, the scorned and bitter sole female member of the Wolf Pack.
“She’s really a tough character,” said Jones, 29. “She’s pretty angry about a lot of things that she has every right to be angry about. She’s miserable and lost and trying to cope internally without a lot of help. And she lashes out quite a bit.”

With the media blitz already in full effect for “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” Spencer said working on something completely different is a way to escape. But there’s no escaping the constant pleas for spoilers from the new flick. And like his character’s quiet, shadow-like wolf form, he only gives a whisper of details.
“This time around, Sam has to put his ego aside to take on this new breed of vampires,” Spencer said. “There’s a lot of new relationships being formed.”

Access Hollywood has a little bit of behind-the scenes look of ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’
Inmovies had an interview with Cameron Bright for his role in the upcoming Eclipse movie.
I understand that your character has some special powers, and it seems to me like it might be a challenge to portray something that no one can see. I wonder how do you act something that isn’t visually obvious?
If anything I cut people’s senses off, so you know, I’m the kind of guy that you don’t want to make pissed off because you won’t know what’s coming to you. But you know, it’s also a cool power when you think about it. You know, it’s a different one. I’m not the normal, like, read minds or anything like that. I cut off people’s senses. You want to be able to hear? No, no you can’t. You know, that kind of stuff.
Was it challenging to get into that, into portraying that power?
Well, so far I’ve never had to use my power, so I can’t say it was hard. I can’t say it was easy, because I haven’t had to do it. But, as in portraying the character? It wasn’t hard at all, it was fun, you know, because you get to do whatever you want with it. You know, a book’s a book. You can picture the person in your head, but as soon as you turn it into a movie, it’s a totally different world, because you’re seeing it come to life. As far as my character goes, the books never really bar him down to a certain person, you know? Like they never said ‘This is how he acts, this is what he does, yadda yadda yadda’. But it was when I got to film in the movie they said ‘Fave fun! You’re a vampire now. Be a vampire.’ And, nobody knows how to play a vampire, because, has anybody met a vampire before? No. But, you know, that’s what I like about it, [that] I can do whatever I want with it.

We’ll finally get to learn a little bit more about your character, Jasper Hale. What we can expect to see from Jasper’s flashbacks and your scenes with Catalina?
Jasper’s back story is that he was turned into a vampire during the Civil War era, so I got to don the Civil War regalia and ride a horse again — I haven’t been on a horse in like two years, so that was really fun. Basically, that’s how I meet Maria, who’s played by Catalina. Maria turns Jasper in order to make him the leader, or trainer, of the army that she needs in the South. Vampire armies are very prevalent in the South in those days. You’ll get to see a lot of deadly training vampire scenes, and a little bit of the love-lust relationship between Jasper and Maria and how it doesn’t really pan out.
From Hollywood Crush, Jackson says that the most gratifying part of ‘Eclipse’ was uncovering Jasper’s ‘pain’.
Though we don’t learn much about Jackson’s Jasper Hale in “Twilight” and “New Moon,” his background is explored much more in “Eclipse.” “I’m excited for a step up with Jasper’s character,” Jackson said. “It’s been two, three years and now I get to kind of go outside and show a little bit more of what makes Jasper tick. We get to go into his back story — see where he came from, who he was before, what makes him who we see in the first film of ‘Twilight,’ what makes him seem like he’s always in pain, why he’s always in pain … because he is.”
So why, exactly, is he in so much agony? “He’s almost depressed,” Jackson said. “He wants to live a good life. He wants to be part of the Cullen family. He is the newest to this vegetarian vampire way of life, and he’s still trying to be part of that and address his inner demons and what he used to be. It was really fun to be able to express that.”
Alex Meraz revelaed that his character, ‘Paul’ would be more angrier in ‘Eclipse’.

Q: I wanted to know, now Edi you play someone that’s actually a bad guy, and then Alex you’re playing someone who’s kind of misunderstood but comes across as mean, and I was wondering where you guys draw that energy from to come across that way on film?
Edi: Well if Alex’s character is misunderstood, then I want my character to be misunderstood. [Laughs] My character is a vampire, and they eat people, and he wants to eat Bella, and that doesn’t make him a bad guy.
[Alex laughs.]
Edi: He’s just, he’s just doing what nature intended him to do, and it’s actually … he’s not apologetic but he’s explaining, you know, why he must do what he has to do. And I think that’s interpreted as being the evil and bad because the heroes of our stories are vegetarians.
Alex: Which is funny because here’s two characters that both try to kill Bella, so that’s pretty good.
Edi: Yeah, your character tries to go after her …
Alex: … but my character, I think he has a sense of pride, you know? For his culture, for the land … and he just does whatever it takes to protect the land, and when Bella – at first, when I turn to try to kill her – she’s just an outsider. I don’t think she belongs there, and she’s bringing nothing but trouble so it’s just a thick sense of pride that’s really what Paul feels.

- The Sense of Humour: While the Twilight series is based overwrought teenage angst, director Chris Weitz lightens the mood with some well-placed humor. Bella’s human school friends provide comic relief. When one of them has to leave a horror movie because he’s ill, Launter’s character laughs and says, “What a marshmallow.” And when a member of the wolf pack accidentally changes from human to werewolf right in front of Bella, another member quips, “Well, I guess the wolf is out of the bag.”

Summit and Creation Entertainment’s Official Twilight Convention started on Friday and here are some write-up from MTV regarding the event. First is the general info about the convention – ‘Twilight’ Convention Comes To New Jersey:

In between star panels and photo and autograph opportunities, fans have a veritable “Twilight” mall to peruse, with table upon table brimming with vampire- and werewolf-themed merch. Handmade bath products, jewelry, 8×10 star glossies and enough “Twilight” tees to fill a dozen closets are among the many, many items up for grabs. Other entertainment opportunities throughout the weekend include rounds of “Twilight” trivia, panels with “Twilight Lexicon” and “Twilight Mom” bloggers, a meet-and-greet with “Twilight” cover hand model Kimbra Hickey, a charity auction and a Saturday night vampire ball, where guests are encouraged to dress like their favorite character.

“I decided, all right, the Wolf Pack stay up all night looking for who’s killing people on the res, so we don’t sleep very much. So I thought it would be a great idea if I stayed up for 10 days straight.” What should have been a simple scene — a confrontation between Bella (Stewart) and the Wolf Pack — became, in Meraz’s mind, his “Brando moment.” Wanting to try something different, the actor played the scene overly aggressive: screaming, grabbing Stewart by the throat, hurtling his line at her.
[Director] Chris Weitz comes off-set like, “Yeah, I like the energy Alex, but just take it down a little, ” Spencer chimed in: “Meanwhile the producers are freaking out back there.”
“Cause nobody touches Kristen Stewart”, joked Meraz.

On the 4th of July the Twilight Cast & The New Moon Cast did something good for charity in the form of the Vampire Baseball event in cooperation with the Make A Wish Foundation of Oregon. Peter Facinelli’s (Carlisle) Team “The Veggie Vamps Dancing with Wolves” beat Rachelle Lefevre’s (Victoria) “Portland People Eaters” Score 6-3.

Within a couple of weeks word came he landed the part of Embry Call. “My mom got an e-mail. She was ecstatic.” After speaking to the director on the phone, he was off to Los Angeles for a “cyberscan.” It’s a technique used in many movies to create real-life animation. “A machine went around my body to create a computer image so I could be transformed into a werewolf.”
“When I went to Vancouver, the first person I met was Alex Meraz. During the first three weeks I hung out with the wolf pack. We worked with a personal trainer. I gained five pounds. We all bonded and became like brothers,” Gordon said. “I’m the smallest (physically) but I’m the tallest.” Gordon is 5 feet 11 inches tall.
Peter Facinelli did a quick interview with The Sunday Post. He revealed a particular scene in New Moon that he hopes wouldn’t end up on the cutting room floor.
Are there any scenes from the books that you hope make it into the films?
For “New Moon,” there’s a scene with Bella (Kristin Stewart) where I stitch her up. I was excited to shoot that scene because it was a pivotal scene. It kind of sets up the whole reason why Rob’s character doesn’t want to change her into a vampire. I hope it stays in the movie because I feel like it’s essential and it’s a really nice scene for Carlisle and Bella; it’s an intimate thing. It’s a scene where a lot of information is being given and it shows another side of Carlisle, a soft side of him that I like. I’d be bummed if that was out.
Will we see Breaking Dawn SOON AFTER Eclipse? There has not been a confirmation from Summit Entertainment but there are rumors circling in the net about its possibility, fueled by an interview with Ashley Greene. Stay tuned!

One could say that executives at Summit Entertainment are obviously seeing the impending implosion of the vampire craze given the breakneck speed at which the Twilight Saga sequels are being produced. Breaking Dawn will focus on Bella and Jacob’s perspectives following Eclipse, which is slated to wrap filming on October 31 before Breaking Dawn gets underway soon after.
But here’s the funny part of the latest Twilight, Breaking Dawn news that happens on each Twilight film like clockwork:
Robert Pattinson has already signed on for Breaking Dawn but it appears that Kristen Stewart is only “rumoured” to be attached to the fourth Twilight Saga movie.

“Someone started yelling at me because they didn’t like my character,” Meraz told us last night at a Carrera Vintage Sunglasses party at the Chateau Marmont hotel.
“I play a bad boy, so she got mad at me,” he added. ”She said, ‘I hate you, Paul!’ That was the craziest thing for me—being confused for a character.”

Will you work on the sequels to Twilight?
As I understand it, the director of New Moon, Chris Weitz, has hired Alexandre Desplat to composer the music for the film. Desplat composed the music for Weitz’ earlier film The Golden Compass. I don’t know if they’ll use any of my themes from Twilight, such as “Bella’s Lullaby”.
Pillow Biters (Oooh Pillow – does it ring a bell?) has exclusives behind-the-scenes pictures. It’s nothing much but you can see those familiar flags in the cafeteria’s window.

Summit Entertainment has made an official statement about The Twilight Saga : New Moon
Los Angeles, CA April 15, 2009 — Principal photography has begun on Summit Entertainment’s THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, it was announced today by Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner reprise their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black. Academy Award-nominee Chris Weitz (THE GOLDEN COMPASS, ABOUT A BOY) is the director. NEW MOON is filming on locations in Vancouver, BC and Tuscany, Italy.

HE’S GONE FROM ‘NEW WORLD’ TO ‘NEW MOON’: Meraz’s first big film was New World as one of the Powhatan core warriors. “That’s kind of where he got the bug,” says fellow New World cast member Trujillo. “It was an incredible experience.”
Meraz was in the running, but was turned down for Apocalypto: ”Mel felt he didn’t look Mayan enough, which was silly.” says Trujillo who was cast. “I don’t look Mayan either, but they put a prosthetic nose on me and I looked plenty Mayan.”

Hell-OH Alex Meraz. He plays Paul in New Moon – here he is photographed on the weekend in Vancouver. Hot. SO hot. Alex was overheard telling people that he’ll be the “bad wolf” in the movie. Bad is good. Bad works for me.
Also attached – Taylor Lautner and his flawless skin (how is skin like this possible???) enjoyed a beautiful sunny break in the day. Vancouver is spectacular when it’s not raining. Just… it rains a LOT. Anyway, Taylor and Kristen were running lines all weekend, prepping to begin shooting in earnest this week. Robert Pattinson was running lines on Sunday too for a few hours. He has however for the most part shut himself in when not working out, apparently hasn’t ventured out much, prefers to be alone, politely declines invitations to go out, either getting into character or perhaps frightened by the loser twi-hards who’ve descended upon Vancouver to hunt him down? Twilight is boosting tourism!
