Twilight News

New York Times has an article about the expected success of The Twilight Graphic novel.

A World of Words Reinvented in Pictures

“We were really pushing the boundaries for the history of the category, and with a property like ‘Twilight,’ it seemed justified,” said Kurt Hassler, the publishing director for Yen Press.

When “Breaking Dawn,” the fourth and final installment of the vampire saga went on sale in 2008, Little, Brown & Company Books for Young Readers, Ms. Meyer’s publisher, printed 3.2 million copies; 45 million copies of the four “Twilight” books have been sold in the United States. If even a small percentage of this audience tries the graphic novel, the ambitious printing will seem like a safe bet. (Little, Brown and Yen Press are divisions of the Hachette Book Group.)

“Twilight” will be split into two graphic novels. Mr. Hassler said that Ms. Meyer was involved in “every panel of every page” of the adaptation, down to the dialogue balloons.

“The characters and settings are very close to what I was imagining while writing the series,” Ms. Meyer said in a statement.

The first graphic novel, illustrated by Young Kim, a Korean artist, will be released on March 16 as a $19.99 hardcover in the same trim size as the original novels. “This will fit very nicely on fans’ bookshelves,” Mr. Hassler said.

A long post today with updates from the Twilight cast members who are making waves of their own – Anna Kendrick, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

Anna Kendrick has down a new interview with Reuters.com - talking about what she’s been up to and being Jessica Stanley.

This week, Kendrick, 24, earned a supporting actress Oscar nomination for her work in “Up in the Air,” playing a perky young executive out to teach George Clooney’s character how to fire people in the modern-day world of computer communication.

The Oscar nod — her first — followed her role in November’s box office hit “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” and this week Vanity Fair anointed her one of the fresh faces to watch in its annual Hollywood issue.

But the truth is, Kendrick’s “fresh face” has been racking up accolades on stage and in independent films for years before she hit the mainstream jackpot with the “Twilight” movies and now “Up in the Air.”

Still, this past week’s Oscar nomination and the month of awards shows and critical acclaim that came before it have caught Kendrick in a whirlwind of big-time Hollywood publicity that she still can’t quite grasp.

“There’s always a part of you that’s going to feel like a version of yourself that couldn’t find a job and you wonder what tricks you pulled to get into the party,” Kendrick told Reuters.

While she may not have been in the Oscar “party” before, it’s not the first time, Kendrick has won the hearts and minds of critics and fans. At age 12, she was the third youngest Tony Award nominee for her role in Broadway musical “High Society.”

Five years later, her singing and dancing wowed audiences in the 2003 musical film “Camp.” It was Kendrick’s first-ever movie and resulted in an Independent Spirit Award nomination. A second Indie Spirit nod followed with 2007′s “Rocket Science.”

She still has one more “Twilight” film, “Eclipse,” due in theaters on June 30. In the saga, Kendrick portrays Jessica Stanley, a friend and classmate of lead character Bella Swan. It is a small role, but enough to make her a recognizable face to her fans without overshadowing the rest of her career.

“I’ve been really lucky to not be defined completely by that series,” says Kendrick.

The entire cast originally signed contracts for the first three installments, and Kendrick said she still does not know if her character will be in the fourth film, “Breaking Dawn.”

“I honestly feel like Jessica is one of those characters that if she wasn’t in the movie, nobody would miss her,” she says. “At the same time, I feel a certain affection for the films so if they ask me, I would love to. I don’t have my fingers crossed either way.”

New Moon News

In the December/January issue of Perspective, David Brisbin (Production Designer) from The Twilight Saga: New Moon recalls the experience he had while filming .

He mainly shares about how Twifans created an instant fame for the saga.

I was a bit surprised when a woman pushing a baby carriage trundled up and said hello. “That’s for a movie, isn’t it?” she asked. … As warmly as I could, I ducked; “Oh, you know, don’t you think someone could just get tired of green and decide to paint their place red?” She shot back, “Sure, but they wouldn’t keep painting over everything until it looked real old.  It’s Jacob’s house isn’t it?” … She contended that my evasiveness — in contradiction to the evidence in the meadow — made it very likely that she had discovered a major Vancouver location for New Moon. Jacob’s house was a key venue in Twilight Saga novels by Stephenie Meyer, but had not appeared in the first movie — so this was a big find. The fan sites were electrified. The next day another fan … posted a drive-by video of the location with her voiceover explanation of why this was surely Jacob’s place.

The March Issue of Vanity Fair is gonna feature the Hollywood Issue – with Kristen Stewart & Anna Kendrick on the cover!

In an era in which every teen star has a stylist and a bland pop record, 19-year-old Kristen Stewart is the tough-minded, no-frills anomaly. Stewart played Bella Swan not as a cartoon but as anxious and complicated—making the predicament of being torn between a vampire and a werewolf seem … well, almost plausible. The daughter of a television-producer father and an Australian script-supervisor mother, the L.A.-bred Stewart has been consistently drawn to melancholy over flash. Between Twilight installments, her edgy trajectory will continue with Welcome to the Rileys, about the friendship between a stripper and a married businessman, played by James Gandolfini, and The Runaways, about rocker Joan Jett.

At just 24, Anna Kendrick has already shown impressive range, from Bella Swan’s twit friend Jessica in theTwilight saga to George Clooney’s buttoned-up colleague in Up in the Air. At age 12, the Maine native was nominated for a Tony Award, for her role in the 1998 musical High Society. After she auditioned for the role of Natalie in Up in the Air, she thought she’d tanked, given director Jason Reitman’s utter non-reaction. Turned out he’d written the role for her, after having seen her in the small high-school film Rocket Science. Next, she’ll star with Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
