Week 2 Winner: Gerald Koh
Answer to Week 2’s Question: Jacob does not directly tell Bella that he’s a werewolf as it would be against the Pack rules. Instead, he goes to her room (in Chapter 12 Intruder), wanting to apologize to her for his previously horrible attitude towards her and in the end, tells Bella to guess what the real secret behind his change of behaviour is. While trying to help her guess correctly, he gives her “clues”, like the Quileute legend he told her at La Push beach in Twilight. Eventually, he leaves and Bella has a dream about Jacob turning into a gigantic wolf with “his intelligent eyes”. Then the story about the enemies of the werewolves echoes in her mind and she makes the connection.
Only when she goes to his house and tell him that she knows what he is does he give her confirmation that her guess was correct when he says about the rangers and hunters in response to the worries that Bella has. Jacob explains his situation of how the wolf pack takes care of themselves. Therefore, by letting her know what he really is, Jacob can finally explain to Bella that he is not in a cult, but has a duty to a pack, which he hopes will help them reconcile and return to being the good friends they once were.

The song, I can’t describe it, it’s so different. It’s not different for me, but I can tell you this — it fits everything going on with the vampire theme. It fits everything with ‘Twilight.’ “

Melissa Rosenberg spoke to E! Online during the Entertainment Weekly/Women In Film Pre-Emmy party last night.
About the posibility of Robsten :
“Their chemistry on film is so extraordinary,” Rosenberg told us at the Entertainment Weekly/Women In Film pre-Emmy party. “They were beautifully cast for those roles and their chemistry is amazing. I think people often confuse chemistry on-screen with chemistry off-screen.
“I think people should just enjoy what’s on-screen and leave their privates lives wherever they are,” she continued. “I don’t actually know what they are.”
About the posibility of Breaking Dawn ever made into film.
First up, Breaking Dawn. Rosenberg is not allowed to could not confirm she’s going to be tackling the script. “That’s still up in the air,” she said. “We’re still talking and nothing’s been decided.”

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse could be subject to a similar coincidence. The Twitterer’s research proves correct in that on June 26th (four days before the release of Eclipse), a partial lunar eclipse will occur (with the next eclipse, a total eclipse, not If, like with New Moon‘s premiere, Eclipse‘s premiere takes place four days before the film’s release, Eclipse will premiere during an eclipse, and New Moon will have premiered during a new moon.

How do you direct a film when everyone knows the story and ending?
In a way, that’s an advantage. That people know and love the book means that people know and want to see the movie, which is what you hope for when you’re making a film. It’s a fine balance between being as faithful as possible to the spirit of the book, and bringing changes. I regard myself as fan as much as any other, and the way that I see the book in my head is just like any other fan’s ability, except that I happen to have tens of millions of dollars at my disposal to realize that vision. One hopes that it’s a strong enough envisioning of the book that people will be amused and entertained and excited even though they know how things are going to end.
There are so many films about vampires, vampire romances, teenage romances—what is it about Twilight‘s love triangle that’s catalyzed this phenomenon?
To me, it has a lot less to do with vampires and werewolves than with readily identifiable emotional situations. Bella has a choice between the loving friend who’s nearby and the distant, unattainable object of her affections. That’s a pretty common scenario, and unfortunately also, so is being dumped. I know I’ve experienced it—pretty much anybody except the incredibly lucky has experienced it—and the supernatural element of things just allows for a degree of wish fulfillment. We can play out these scenarios on a grand scale. When you get broken up with, you’d like to think that if you just did something brave enough, something amazing enough, you could rescue the relationship that’s been broken. And you would like to think that the person who’s left you has left you for your own good against their heart. That’s usually not the case, but in New Moon it happens to be, so that’s a lovely way to fulfill one’s wishes. A great thing that Summit as a studio understands is that there are dark places that the movie has to go in order for it all to work. They’re not afraid of the angst and the sorrow that’s in the book. In a way, the film can be kind of a throwback to weepies as well as very cutting edge in terms of visual effects.
It’s got this operatic tone that’s like soma for anyone with a broken heart.
We’re probably going to put out one of the greatest breakup mix albums of all time on the soundtrack. Alexandre Desplat doing the music means there’s this sense of French Romanticism that goes back to Alexandre’s mentor Maurice Jarre and everything he did for David Lean’s movies—going back to Debussy and Ravel and that kind of stuff. There is a lot of luxuriating in the emotionalism of the piece. I think I’m probably now supposed to add at this point that there’s great stuff for guys as well. But leave that aside for the moment.
I heard that the on-set experience has been like living in A Hard Days Night.
It was like that in Italy. Although it wasn’t so much running and chasing. I’d compare it more to The Birds. You look around and then there’s suddenly ten girls over there. And then there’s 20. Then 30, then 40. And then suddenly the street you’re intending to walk down to get to your next location or lunch is just blocked and there’s no way to get through. Or you will get through, but it’ll take you hours because you’ll take pictures and sign autographs. Which is fair enough because they’ve come all this way and they’re really the reason that we’re there. Or you’ll have to be a real meanie and just run past. I’ve developed a preoccupied look that sometimes works. I try to seem as though there’s something going really badly at a different location, and sometimes that gets me out of situations.

Radar Online has more pictures of the cast and crew on the film set of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Carlisle (in a Killers tee!) and the Wolfpack (in bathrobes) with Emily and the director David Slade. They seem to be waiting around and discussing at what looks like the red walls of Jacob’s house.
Wonder what scene they are shooting…maybe mangled Jacob inside?
I had a chance to see a new set being filmed for Eclipse… the scene where the newborns arrive in Forks. It’s a picturesque scene, with mountains and water framing the background of the shot, and a sparse unoccupied beach for the newborns to arrive on… then they disappear into the forest. The vampire newborns looked absolutely chilling, and their rugged military-like outfits along with steely, determined glares just added to the mood. Filmed early in the morning, this scene was designed to look as if it had been shot at night, possibly just after dusk or just before dawn.
In this scene in the video (coming soon), you’ll see the Director ask them to go underwater (”Under water!), then he counts as they are rolling with the movie cameras “OK, Riley”… then the first actor emerges (my guess is they were using “Riley” as the code word, since the first actor that emerges is NOT Riley). Then the Director calls them out “2…. and 3″… and the other actor and then Riley emerges from the water. The vampires moved slowly, slinking through the water but very clearly with purpose.

Its a whole 2 months before The Twilight Saga: New Moon opens across USA but ticket sales have been doing very, VERY WELL it seems! The LA Times has this report:
Online ticket sellers MovieTickets and Fandango report that the follow-up to last year’s hit from Summit Entertainment, which sold $191.5 million worth of tickets in the U.S. and Canada, is selling out screenings earlier than any other movie to date.
“New Moon” has sold out 50 showtimes of nearly 22,000 offered on Fandango and 13 showtimes of 2,912 offered on MovieTickets. Most of the sold-out shows are at or around midnight Nov. 20, when the movie debuts.
More news on the New Moon Soundtrack on MTV and how its shaping up. So Death Cab For Cutie, The Used, Bon Iver and Thom Yorke (Radiohead) are in.
“There is a lot of love lost, so the artists that are going to make up the soundtrack reflect that longing — a lot of acoustic instruments, a lot of a cappella singing.”
I’m so glad there is a snap shot of my absolute favorite shot from the entire trailer, the one of Bella’s vision of Edward after her cliff jump. She reaches out to him as he floats in the water next to her, and as she is pulled away from him by Jacob, she touches his face, distorting the image. It is so sad and so beautiful, and shows the leaps and bounds “New Moon” has come from “Twilight.”

Two New Moon extras share their experience with MTV.com about filming on set together with Robert & Kristen in Italy.
“One morning we’re sitting by the piazza. We’re having coffee at 6:30 in the morning and the casting director comes over and he says, ‘Hey! Do you guys want to be in the movie?’” recalled Vanessa. “That was it. We went [and] we put our red capes on and we worked until 8pm.”….
“All the action is happening behind us with Edward and Bella running and everybody is supposed to be looking toward the church and we have our hoods and we’re all like this [looks backward] trying to sneak a peek at Edward and look at his abs” she said. “And the Italian director is screaming at us … and he’s screaming ‘Guardare la chiesa!’ — ‘Look at the church! Look at the church!’”…
“They also filmed two scenes with the Porsche: one with the Porsche driving up the street and coming to a screeching halt basically in front of us… and then one of the last scenes we did was with the Porsche… on one of those trucks with the cameras in front of it.”
The ladies were privy to one of the tricks of the trade when they witnessed the compact car on a fast-moving flatbed truck to give the appearance that the Porsche was speeding down the cobble stone street. In actuality, it was the truck, not the car, that was the real safety hazard.

Heads up guys! Well The Twilight DVD has just been released in Japan today. We have yet to find out the complete contents of the special features in this DVD but there are a couple of familiar videos on it. Though these 2 versions are a little more HD than the ones we took at the Twilight Premiere in Tokyo in February, they also offer us some cool unseen footage during the premiere.
Woot!! Everytime I see this part (4:20) - one can’t help but WISH there was a Robsten! hehe

With David Slade in control of ‘Eclipse’, the film will be more “guy-friendly”. MTV caught up with Ashley Greene recently and she tells us this:

Just as co-star Taylor Lautner told MTV News on Sunday, Greene said Slade’s taking the third “Twilight” film in a darker direction. “I think it’ll be different,” Greene said. “I think it’s going to be a battle between the studio and the director, and it’s going to be a hard balance, ’cause I think he’s … a little more focused on it being real and maybe it being gorier and a little dark and kind of dramatic.”
I’m sure the cast can keep up with the momentum and deliver it well!
New Moon News – ‘The Used’ for New Moon OST
Yes, that’s right! According to TAKE40, ‘The Used’ will be in the New Moon OST:
When we spoke to Bert McCracken of The Used yesterday, he revealed that a new song of theirs entitled ‘For You I Would’ was set to be the title track!
“It’s gonna be a big deal,” Bert told take40.com. “We wrote a really awesome original song for the movie.”

Today’s the day where Robert, Kristen and Taylor introduced to the world, the anticipated New Moon trailer during the MTV Video Music Awards. Apparently, the trailer that was featured during the VMA’s has a few additional scenes from the trailer that was leaked in the net.

“I think I’m having a phone call with the director tomorrow,” Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy said during some downtime at their VMA rehearsal. “He wants to use a song off the new album, so we’re going to talk about that. That could be cool.”

Radar Online sent us an exclusive interview with Chaske Spencer – New Moon Star Chaske Spencer On His Competition With RPattz:
Radar: You said that you like that the vampire is the cool skinny guy. Rob is basically the only guy in the show that isn’t working out in between scenes because he’s not buffing up, right?
Spencer: No, actually he was training with us.Radar: Did he go to Wolf Camp?
Spencer: No, he did Vampire Camp! I don’t know what his workout regimen was but he would show up before or after us because we were on two different shooting schedules during New Moon and most of the vampires, I met them for dinner once but then boom, we all went our separate ways to work. I would hear the trainer say oh Rob lifted this much weight, and I’d say really?Radar: Would you want to lift more than Rob?
Spencer: Yes! There was this competition one day we went into the gym, we have this rowing machine and I really busted my ass and I got a high record on it and I was like, yeah, beat that! Because the wolves are really competitive with each other in the gym. Then the next day I came in and Rob beat me by four seconds! Then filming was done and I never got to go back and try to up that.

Radar: How is your on screen chemistry with Tinsel Korey?
Spencer: She’s a sweet heart, I love that girl. What we did was we went out for coffee and we talked to build some chemistry to sit and get to know one and other. When we got to filming it went really well, it went really easy. Of course, you meet someone and the next day you’re kissing them. It’s a weird profession. You can’t fake it. She’s one of my really good friends, I call her up. I can put her on my top five actually. I text Alex and Kiowa, we talk to each other because we’re all going through this together. Tinsel I like her because I can talk to her in ways that I can’t talk to the other guys. It’s almost like we are becoming that family in the book. Tinsel is a good actress and a talented, talented woman. I like her music. We would just hang out and talk, go to dinner shoot the breeze.
Radar: What about the first time you saw Tinsel with the scar? How did you feel about that?
Spencer: She’s a really beautiful woman and when you put that scar it just adds this depth to her. It’s horrendous; they did a really good job. It really ads so much to her character, because you really look inside her eyes and you can see the beauty inside her eyes, and that’s what she brings to Emily. So when we did the scene it was just magic happening there that hopefully the audience will see. She really brought a lot and the scar helped out.

Here’s an excerpt of the great interview!
..A lot of fans are wondering about – since you are so good at CG, it’s your forte – how is the design for the werewolves looking?
Chris Weitz: I think it’s looking good, we are taking Stephenie’s lead – that they are ‘wolves the size of horses’. We’ve avoided any temptation to kind of go ‘Lon Chaney’ with it – or to make it humanoid type of werewolves- they’re very much creatures of nature. Phil Tippet is doing the wolves – it’s not me, I’m not the one who is good at CGI, I just happened to have lucked into working with people who are very good at it. I just know a good thing when I see it and Phil Tippet, who has many Oscars – worked on Star Wars and this kind of stuff is doing the wolves and they are just going to be great. They are going to be fantastic and at the same time they have to fit into the world that is already there – you can’t suddenly pop out of reality. Somehow what Stephenie manages to do is mix the emotions that everybody feels at some point in their lives with supernatural things – with werewolves and vampires and all that kind of stuff- it would be wrong if when you see a werewolf you were suddenly in a totally different movie, so they have to be very carefully integrated. If there’s one thing I am good at with CG, it’s that I don’t like it to jump too much to the foreground – I like it to settle into other aspects of the film.
How does this compare to ‘Golden Compass’? Just in the development process in bringing two separate books to life?
Chris Weitz: It’s been an easier process… I found a lot less interference from Summit and a lot more understanding of the books than New Line had of the Golden Compass. I think that this studio understands the importance of the books – members of which who have read the books and appreciate them – not just see them as engines of possible profit. So that makes a tremendous difference- it really does.
There were a lot of quirks in ‘Twilight’ with incorporating the book cover and having Stephenie do the cameo. Do you any plans to put your own spin on that to include it in this movie at all?
Chris Weitz: Well I know that Stephenie didn’t particularly like the tulip on the cover of the book, so we won’t be seeing that. Well I don’t think there are any trick cameos per se but every time I make a movie I definitely want 20 or 30 moments where if you had a DVD and stopped it, you can see things whether it be strange bits of foreshadowing – as though you can see into the future in certain scenes or whether it be little moments that pass by un noticed or details of the architecture of things- I love doing that sort of stuff-
It sounds like it’s going to be soo multilayered. I like the fact that there will be some subliminal type of things in there….
Chris Weitz: Yeah, but not subliminal in a bad way- not like advertising – part of my job in pre-production assembling the team to make the movie is to try to find the right people and everyone cares about the details intensely. It is going to be incredibly layered and textured in terms of the details of everything and when for instance:
All the kids who were First Nations – they call them first nations in Canada what we call Native American in America – went and saw Jacobs house – which you only see for about 10 seconds in the movie- just walking them through that house for the first time was a great experience because they were like “wow this feels just like the house that I grew up in” – and it wasn’t the reservation that one thinks of in a cliché kind of way, it’s just the fact in La Push people have lots and lots of pictures of their family up on the wall or that there are bits of carvings- or this or that – all these details were very carefully researched. Our production team went down to La Push and met people there. There are like fun little details there was a girl at La Push who gave a member of our production team her first drum – you are supposed to give away your first drum – which was really great, so we put it in the movie. She’ll see it- little things like that- reference from us to one person but these things ecru and mean something…

New Moon News (details on New Trailer)
This is still unconfirmed but a Robert Pattinson Life reader Irishgirl(Alison)has seen a new trailer and shared some info about WHAT COULD BE the NEW The Twilight Saga: New Moon trailer that we MAY be seeing during the VMAs on the Sunday 13th September! It was shown as preview to a Summit Entertainment film – Sorority Row.
All the footage was GORGEOUS! It made me so excited for the film, but I am wary that they’ve released too much in the trailer. I’m assuming it will play before Sorority Row when it opens this weekend, or it’s the trailer that is being unveiled at the VMAs.
- Volturi lair – Aro, Caius, Marcus
- Felix fighting Edward
- Edward being thrown about the lair two or three times.
- Bella begging them to not hurt him
- Edward leaving Bella in the woods (more dialogue than we’ve already heard)
- Bella in the woods
- Bella in despair in her room
- Bella confronting the pack, Paul morphing in to a wolf in front of Bella
- Bella and Jacob with Jacob’s “I would never hurt you” line
- Bella on the bike seeing Edward and falling over.
- Edward vision in the school parking lot with voiceover from Bella saying it’s the only way she can see him
- Bella and Jessica walking with Jessica saying “so you’re an adrenaline junkie now”

If the focus of the “New Moon” teaser trailer was on the breakup, and the focus of“Meet Jacob Black” was, obviously, to introduce a new werewolf Jacob, then the focus of this newest trailer is on what comes next. Most of the clip is set in Italy at the end of the film, when Bella is (spoiler!) trying to stop Edward from killing himself by turning himself over to the Volturi.

Robert Pattinson Life has great images from the set of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse filming yesterday. Looks like its another parking lot scene – this time it seems Bella is having an argument with Edward and the part where Jacob whisks Bella from school.
