New Moon News (Updated)

Now that Rachelle will no longer be Victoria, questions are raised on whether she should promote ‘New Moon’. Find out more from Twilight-Gossip.

Having said all that, Rachelle wants to thank her fans for being supportive all these while! Click here to read her Twitter’s status :D I hate re-cast :(

Angie from LetMeSign has shared with us EW’s upcoming cover which features VAMPIRES! Take a look below:

New Moon News (Updated)

This first news is with regards to Rachelle not portraying ‘Victoria’ in Eclipse.

Here’s Summit Entertainment’s response:
We at Summit Entertainment are disappointed by Rachelle Lefevre’s recent comments which attempt to make her career choices the fault of the Studio. Her decision to discuss her version of the scheduling challenges publicly has forced the Studio to set the record straight and correct the facts.

Ms. Lefevre’s representatives were advised as early as April that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE was expected to start shooting in early August.

If Ms. Lefevre was, as she describes “passionate,” about being part of THE TWILIGHT SAGA, we feel that she and her representatives would have included us in her decision to work on another film that would conflict with the shooting schedule of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.

It was not until July 20th that Summit was first informed of Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to BARNEY’S VERSION, a commitment we have since been advised she accepted in early June. Summit had acted in good faith that she would be available to fulfill her obligations both in terms of rehearsals and shooting availability for THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production.

Furthermore Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least ten days of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE’s principal photography. This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast, and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production.
Contrary to Ms. Lefevre’s statement, it is simply untrue that the Studio dismissed her over a ten day overlap. It is not about a ten day overlap, but instead about the fact that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker and most importantly the story.

The fact remains that Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to the other project – which she chose to withhold from Summit until the last possible moment – makes her unfortunately unavailable to perform the role of Victoria in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.

Next, Jamie Campbell Bower talks about Naked Vampires! SERIOUSLY?

281x211

“We just all sit there, completely naked, for one scene,” revealed “New Moon” actor Jamie Campbell Bower, talking about a racy moment that was added into the upcoming film. “Yeah, it’s me, Michael Sheen and Christopher [Heyerdahl]; we just sit there, naked.”

Next, check out the Top 10 New Moon Facts Revealed at Comic-Con 2009:

Summit Entertainment knows its audience, evidenced by the two scenes they brought to Comic-Con. Whether you’re Team Edward or Team Jacob, there was a shirtless scene for you. Who wanted to see the birthday party scene or the cliff diving scene, when they could get their first peek at Jacob Black hopping valiantly off a bike to strip naked to tend to an almost-drooling Bella? Or watch as Bella raced across Volterra in vain as Edward opened his shirt, stepping into the sunlight? It was such an amazing sight, Bella started running in slow motion.

Interviews with the Director, Chris Weitz. Read below for more…

New Moon’ Director Weitz names next project from Hitflix. Chris mentions that ‘New Moon’ will be different from ‘Twilight’. ‘New Moon’ will be look and feel like an old romance. We’ll know it when 3rd December comes!

12 minutes 49 seconds with Chris Weitz, Director of New Moon from Time (NerdWorld Blog).

How closely did you follow the look-and-feel of the first movie in New Moon?Did you want to make it your own? Or do a seemless transition?

I think there’s a balance possible. I do want to make it my own, and I’m not really interesting in tweaking the world in the digital intermediate so that it gets this kind of blue gloss which the first movie had. I’m much more interested in having a fuller palate, and a richer palate. And we’re able to shoot some scenes in sunlight, eventually, which is really kind of nice. And to shoot interior scenes that have a kind of rounded glow to them, like the Volturi … bad-guy headquarters, for want of a better term.

BREAKING NEWS: RACHELLE LEFEVRE NOT IN ECLIPSE

Summit Entertainment has just released an official change in the cast for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA ADDS ACTRESS BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD TO FILM FRANCHISE

Actress Rachelle Lefevre Will Be Replaced By Howard In The Role Of Victoria

rachelle
Los Angeles, CA July 28, 2009 — Summit Entertainment announced today that Bryce Dallas Howard will take over the role of “Victoria” in the studio’s upcoming production of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. Actress, Rachelle Lefevre, who portrayed the character in TWILIGHT as well as the upcoming release of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, will not continue in the role due to scheduling conflicts with another commitment the actor has made. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE will start filming in Vancouver this coming August.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be directed by David Slade from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. The film will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

“We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions. “Rachelle brought “Victoria” to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”

Howard most recently starred in TERMINATOR SALVATION as Kate Connor and has been seen in SPIDER-MAN 3, LADY IN THE WATER, and THE VILLAGE. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading performance as an actress in the HBO film AS YOU LIKE IT.

In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob—knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Howard is represented by ICM and Management 360.

You’ll be sorely missed, Rachelle. We’ll sure miss that darn sexy smile of yours…

New Moon News (Updated)

We’re still in the Comic-Con mode, so here’s what we have for you today! Articles and photos just keep coming in!

FAME (and Robert Pattinson!) Well, according to Rob, fame isn’t the worst thing in the world:

Attending the “Twilight Saga’s New Moon” panel at Comic Con in San Diego on Thursday, July 23, the British actor jokingly said, “I never do anything normal anyway” before then adding, “I pretty much live an almost identical life apart from being recognized.”

You have seen the two “pirated” clips from the previous post. Now, from MTV, Robert describes Bella’s Hallucinations in ‘New Moon’:

281x211

“It’s just Edward’s voice in the book,” Pattinson told his fans at Comic-Con. “And I guess it would look probably pretty cheesy if it was just my voice, so they’ve done these hallucinations, kind of semi-visible apparitions.”

Kristen Stewart added that in these hallucinations Bella Swan has are “very subjective, like how she remembers him, not necessarily how he actually is.”

We still have more great cast pictures…from the lovely Everglow and Lion And Lamb Love! Check out the respective galleries :D

Well they’ve done it! Someone has actually captured & filmed footage of the Twilight Saga: New Moon clips that were shown during Comic Con. Here they are  - New Moon the Pirated version:

Larry Carroll of MTV talked to Kristen & Taylor at Comic Con and how Edward just ‘had to appear’ in New Moon.

As the stars sped around from one event to the next, “New Moon” actors Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner were the queen and king of the festivities — and when we caught up with them for an exclusive interview, they were eager to talk about their playful relationship and living in the shadow of Edward Cullen.

“We needed to put a little bit more Rob in the movie — for whatever reason,” Stewart laughed, referring to her breakout co-star Robert Pattinson and the decision to insert him throughout the film in a series of “hallucination sequences”.”

And watch the press conference clips @ Comic Con starting with  Robert Pattinson talks about his supporting role in New Moon. The clips are on continuos play and see how Kristen, Taylor and Robert talk about their experiences on making the Twilight series and how has life been since Twilight debuted at Comic Con last year.

Here’s a pretty awesome video where EW talked to Chris Weitz, Taylor, Ashley, Kristen & Rob in an exclusive interview @ Comic Con. Its cool & funny at the same time! Thanks to ew for the video.

Lee Safar is an Australian singer who has TWO songs under consideration for the New Moon Soundtrack: “I’m Here” and “Take Me Away”. MTV has an exclusive interview with the great singer who is also massive Twilight fan.

How I came to find “Twilight” is a beautiful memory for me. Stu Henshall, a recent PR grad, and I had a chance meeting in London early this year. I gave him a copy of my debut EP “Who I’ve Become” to listen to. He went into his room and woke up the next morning, after having listened to my CD obsessively all night, he said, “I’m going to take you to see something today. Have you seen ‘Twilight’?” I told him that I hadn’t even heard of it but was intrigued. We went that day and saw the movie and I was immediately obsessed.

…I’ve read the series twice and would go for a third if my schedule allowed it. My favorite book is “Breaking Dawn.”

Listen to “I’m Here” at Lee Safar’s Myspace page. And tell us what do you think?

Here’s our first report from Comic Con 2009 San Diego. This time around there’s only 5 of the in the panel : Chris Weitz, Kristin Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson and Ashley Green which literally are the main characters in New Moon. Unfortunately though, the Volturis have not been included. Nonetheless, two clips were revealed and from the reports we’ve read : they were amazing!! Did we expect anything else? :)

The Comic Con organisers pleaded with the fans not to film footage of the clips.

Zap2it.com has this report live from Hall H:

2:02 p.m. – Oh my God. They’re here!

Director Chris Weitz anyway.

Ashley Greene (Alice), Kristen Stewart (Bella), Taylor Lautner (Jacob) and yes, Edward Cullen himself, Rob Pattinson arrive. Oddly enough, the screaming is at a minimum. My ears are intact.

Ashley – It’s her first time here, so it’s been “incredible.”

To the screams of “Take your shirt off!” Taylor answers about transforming: “He changes mentally and emotionally … the hardest part was physically. I worked really hard to transform his body … I hope you guys are pleased when you see the results.”

Not a lot of fans are digging Kristen Stewart’s Joan Jett hair. Yeah, let’s move on to Rob. His hair’s great.

He’s smiling and charming (of course) answering something about special effects. But wait, they’re saying they brought something for us here? Could it be a new scene? A trailer? A pony?

Ah, it’s  clip! And yes, TAYLOR LAUTNER TAKES HIS SHIRT OFF in it.

Whew. Excuse me as I cool myself off with a soda. The temperature in this room has ridden to global warming levels. Oh, and get my hearing back.

Okay, here’s a rundown of the clip: It’s the scene where Jacob teaches Bella to ride a motorcycle. Of course, ghostly Edward (as the voice in her head) makes some pale-faced appearances as she rides. After she crashes and gets all bloody, that’s when the magic happens: Jacob plays nurse and rips –okay, not really — takes his shirt off showing off a six-pack plus magnum abs. I couldn’t hear any dialog after that. …….

Director Weitz says there’s one more scene where Alice and Bella are rushing …one moment while I watch.

In this clip, ROB PATTINSON TAKES OFF HIS SHIRT.

I kid you not. The “New Moon” folks found a way to give us both shirtless Taylor AND shirtless Rob. Can we die happy now?

Clip #2: At the end of “New Moon,” Bella and Alice are riding in a sweet yellow Porsche (that’s what it was, right?) in Italy, rushing to stop Edward from revealing himself in the light of day so that the Volturi will get angry and kill him (since he believes Bella is dead, he’s sacrificing himself).

Kristen, looking properly Bella in the clip gets out of the car and runs through a bunch of red hooded and cloaked people to the area where a slow motion-moving Edward appears in a black buttoned-down shirt, which he’s oh-so-slowly unbuttoning. Bella is running like a madwoman to get to him on time, and bit by bit, we see more of his pale white torso, revealing that he too has a nice set of abs for your laundry needs.

Just as he gets to the last button and is about to shrug out of his shirt, the clip cuts to the movie logo. Denied!!!

That’s all folks. I wouldn’t be surprised if those two clips will be made available soon. Keep an eye out for it!

Read the complete stuff here.

Here is the first video. Thanks to DeniseHart for posting.

New Moon News (Updated)

Recently, Kristen Stewart made a Public Service Announcement to raise public awareness for sexual assault. Read about it here.

comiccon

Larry Carroll of MTV Movie team is at Comic Con and reports that “New Moon Mania Sweeps Comic Con & MTV is in the BIGGER, BETTER Twilight Booth ;)

This year, “New Moon” mania is in full effect. An impressive booth sits in the middle of the convention floor, showing off three enormous character photos of Rob, Kristen and Taylor Lautner. A spinning, “Let’s Make a Deal”-like wheel gives fans the opportunity to win all kinds of “Twilight” swag, and the lines promise to be as long as the list of high schools the Cullens have attended.

The coolest part of the booth, however, once again revolves around a photo op — although this year’s is far cooler. You can sit in a massive Volturi-style chair just like those soon to be occupied on screen by the vampire coven from Volterra, Italy. After the studio takes your photo, however, they’ll superimpose the actual Italian background from the “New Moon” flick, and then e-mail it to you. How cool is that?

The line for the New Moon panel in Hall H has definitely grew overnight!

Here one blog on the LA Times about how some girls are complaining that some people are cutting the queue. Read the full story here and they have a video too!

A group of girls, who wanted to be called the anti-Twimoms, complained loudly to Elite security officers about people who were saving space at the front of the line, and older fans — or mothers of fans — who were cutting in line and camping out.  The girls proceeded to say that it was also “creepy” that some of the women were so adamant about going to a panel to see a teenager (Taylor Lautner who plays Jacob – apparently the moms were on ‘Team Jacob’).

And look who’s into Twilight and Robert Pattinson now…add Shakira in the list! MTV reports.

Do you want to see Shakira blush? Ask her about “Twilight” Why would the vampire-and-werewolf film franchise get the superstar singer feeling a bit embarrassed? Is it because the title of her upcoming October album, She Wolf, shares a fondness for hirsute shape-shifters? Nope. Turns out Shakira has a little crush on “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson.

Meanwhile, CNN has an article up regarding the Twilight fan frenzy. According to CNN, There is no fan like a ‘Twilighter”.

“Twilight” lovers were such a force at last year’s Comic-Con, Creation Entertainment, the franchise behind “Star Trek” conventions, immediately began putting together plans for fans of the goth-lite love story.

“We saw the reaction that it got, and that this was going to be something really huge; the fans are extremely passionate,” said Creation Entertainment CEO Gary Berman.

Twilight/New Moon News

tMF wrote an article on Robert Pattinson and the papparazzi that has been following him around.

Since March 2008, tMF and Pattinson Online have been affiliates. A lot of big things has happened but practically nothing has changed post Twilight era – only that Robert Pattinson is now the world’s most popular actor and from a few Rob fansites (I know of only 3 back then) there are now dozens of sites and blogs competing, promoting and breathing Rob Pattinson. But what makes this particular site different? My friend Isabel, one of the partners and its PR Director has this to say:

What sets our site apart from the plethora out there, according to our fans: our no rumour, no paparazzi policy, our Pattycast, and the Pattinson Online Network. Pattinson Online has been and continues to be the only Robert Pattinson website that is both rumour and paparazzi free. We do not believe that Robert’s privacy has to be breached or his image compromised for us to gain significant hits. On the contrary, we believe we have become more popular as a result.  Fans write to us by the multitudes, daily, to let us know how much they appreciate a consistent site with reliable news. That is what we see ourselves as – not so much a fansite, but a very reliable source for Robert Pattinson news. We verify most rumours with Rob’s management before posting anything doubtful. We stay away from pap-filled news outlets as sources and we create great partnerships connections with people in the business.

They teamed up with Pattinson Online who has created a project called F.L.A.N.S. (Fangirl Leaders Against Needless Stalking). You can read the full article on tMF and you can visit Project F.L.A.N.S if you would like to know more about it. It’s a site dedicated to protecting Robert Pattinson’s safety and sanity by educating the fans.

The Twilight magazine (above) can now be bought at Kinokuniya in Singapore! It has nice pics, decent articles and a New Moon poster that has Edward, Bella and Jacob on it. The magazine costs S$18.90! Thanks to our Twimum, Janelene for the info! :)

Fandango has an exclusive set visit interview with Jamie Campbell Bower who plays Caius in New Moon.

Q. How would you describe Caius’ look?
Campbell Bower:
I had a discussion with (costume designer) Tish (Monaghan), and we figured out that Caius probably doesn’t get to go out that much, so… he just steals his clothes from previous victims. The style is nice and smart and sleek and slim and – yeah, I like it. It’s very Italian, and I like the shoes, particularly.

Q. How much is expanded on in the 18th century flashback scenes?
Campbell Bower:
A little bit – not very much as far as the Volturi go. It’s awesome. It does look really cool and it will be kind of shocking. I don’t want to go too far and ruin it for anyone.

Q. Are you signed on for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn?
Campbell Bower:
I possibly will be coming back for number four. Number three, not at the moment. I don’t think Caius appears at all in number three.

You  can read the full interview here.

Rotten Tomatoes has their day two report of their New Moon set visit.

“We have wire work, but we’re really trying to not do a lot of it,” he explained. “We don’t want to get into the Hong Kong – floaty stuff that you see all the time, vampires hanging in the air and all of that. It’s a tough call, because wires are wires, and the inherent problem with them is exactly that. They get floaty on you. So we’re having a heck of a time trying to find the balance that gives us enough to make it supernatural without it being over the top.”

Pattinson wore a dark burgundy hooded robe, his chest exposed. And yes, it was impeccably hairless and like alabaster, just as Meyer wrote it. Girls will swoon. Greene stood next to him, wearing a white and gray striped robe and red gloves. Stewart stood between them in black jeans, a short sleeved shirt, and sneakers.

As Pattinson rushed forward, wires attached to his clothing were rigged to jerk him back the moment that Jane’s attack — an invisible psychosomatic blast of pain — hit him. He grimaced in pain as the camera closed in, neck muscles straining with effort. Finally, he fell to his knees before collapsing on the ground with a loud thud.

Behind the stage, Meyer and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg sat together, nodding in agreement. It looked good on the monitors.

You can read the full article about their day 2 set visit here.

New Moon News

New Moon News (Updated)

Woot! Gregory Ellwood has just posted HitFix.com ‘s DAY 2 of their visit to the Twilight Saga: New Moon set.

After getting an up close view of the sets for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon, on Day One, this writer’s second day on the sequel’s set didn’t seem much different at first.

As we made our way into the soundstage, the film’s principals were once again seen on the video monitors acting out more scenes from the initial Volturi meeting. And like a proud mother watching her children, series author Stephenie Meyer was front and center taking in every moment. (AawWWWWW)

…The first shot we witness this morning finds Pattinson on camera in a long brown robe with tan accents on his sleeve.  He races to the camera, looks up, braces in pain and then falls to the floor.  The second take he has more agony in his voice as he falls and we can hear director Chris Weitz saying, “Much, much better.”  The third attempt finds the camera panning back to reveal Bella at his side before he lunges toward what must be one of the Volturi (Jane we later discover) and falling to the ground.

“Please stop,” Stewart says, “Don’t hurt him.”

At first, during rehearsal as the camera operator sets up the shot, Stewart says the lines comically with deadpan effect causing some snickers from the crew.  But when the take is ready for real, she says it with the expected dramatic resolve.  The coverage also expands to find Alice Cullen (Ashley Greene) being allowed to race to Edward’s side.  She gesture’s that he’s “OK.”

…Then something rather odd happened. This journalist has been to more than 30 movie sets and had never experienced what occurred next.  A man who I can only assume was the Assistant Director came out from the closed 360 Volturi hall and announced, “All guests clear the set.”  And that didn’t mean Ms. Meyer, her companions or the Summit executives in front of the monitors, that meant us — the press.  So, without complaint we walked off the soundstage to be followed by an overly genial Wyck Godfrey, the film’s producer we’d spoken with the day before, who, paraphrasing, remarked, “Sometimes things like that happen on a movie set.”

… Happily though, our whole crew was soon allowed back on the set where we returned to our positions to watch more shooting.  At this point — and with her crew and some of the publicists out of the way, Meyer made a point of coming over to talk to us.  We couldn’t interview her formally (her handlers are actually smart to limit her press breaks), but she couldn’t not say hello to us.  She’d also admitted she visited all or our sites except for HitFix, but hopefully that has changed in the weeks since. (Are you there Stephenie?  Have you gotten your fix?).  We also discovered these was one of her few visits to the filming of “New Moon” and she had not been there for all of the production.  Meyer also said she was very happy with Weitz’s direction and was blown away by the Volutri hall set that was being used the days we were there.

Here’s a little something about Noot Seear who plays the beautiful vampire Heidi.

nootseear

Noot Seear is Heidi in The Twilight Saga:New Moon

“We wanted someone who had an unearthly and unlikely beauty, but could also convey humor and menace,” explains Weitz, who reportedly also considered AnnaLynne McCord of “90210” before eventually settling on Seear. “It’s rare to find a stunningly attractive person who also happens to have the ability to act.”

…But when the opportunity to be part of the “Twilight” juggernaut came about, she knew it was her time. “I started reading the books, and I couldn’t put them down,” she says.

She admits she was worried her modeling years would hinder her acting chops. “I was really scared because you’re not allowed to look in the camera [when filming a movie], but in the modeling world, you’re supposed to,” recalls Seear, whose problem was solved by the heavy-duty violet contacts she had to wear on-screen. “I literally couldn’t see 2 feet in front of me. They would tell me, ‘Look at Kristen [Stewart],’ and I was like, ‘OK. Where is she?’”

…And the model, who’s already signed up for two more “Twilight” installments, shows no signs of slowing down. “Modeling was great to me. I made a lot of money doing it,” says Seear, who plans to move to Los Angeles later this year to focus on acting. “[But] what makes acting different is that you get a voice. You’re not just a picture.”

NewMoonMovie.org has this great photo from the filming set of New Moon. Looks like they’re likely discussing the scene where Alice comes back to check on Bella… or it could be the scene before Bella leaves for Italy!!! Ohh Soo EXCITING!!! ;) Thanks to lion&lamb at LiveJournal for the pic!

YAY!! Xavier Samuel has spoken about getting the role of Riley for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Thanks to emiliexoxx for this!!

Gina McIntyre of LA Times wrote ‘On The Set : ‘New Moon’ on the rise’

The team working on this sequel to last year’s Catherine Hardwicke-directed “Twilight,” which brought in an unexpected $365 million worldwide for Summit Entertainment, is moving quickly to sustain the momentum of the sexy, youth-oriented franchise.
…Between takes, Pattinson chats with the crew while director Chris Weitz stands several feet away, his arms folded behind his head. Visual effects, “that’s not my thing,” he concedes with a wry smile.

What does interest him is literature. Due in theaters Nov. 20, “New Moon” will mark his third consecutive literary adaptation after having directed “About a Boy,” from the Nick Hornby novel, and “The Golden Compass,” the big-budget fantasy based on the first chapter in author Philip Pullman’s award-winning “His Dark Materials” series. It was his experience making that film — which should have been a dream project really, given Weitz’s reverence for the source material — that made the idea of taking the reins on the second “Twilight” film so appealing.

…”I promised the actors that no matter what, we would have time to discuss every single line,” Weitz explains. “There was a line that he felt was repetitive and Rob wasn’t feeling where he was in the scene. We worked it out and came up with some alternate dialogue. I can work on the fly a bit because I’m a writer-director, which is helpful. I don’t feel stuck or panicky when an actor is not down with a particular piece of dialogue.”

….”It’s a rare and wonderful feeling to know that people are going to want to see what you’re making,” he says. “The fear sometimes when you’re making a film is that you’ve gotten everybody all dressed up with nowhere to go. Certainly, there is the possibility that I can drop the ball . . . . But at least people are going to go and see it.”

THE GREAT BOOK BLOCKADE 2009

twilightbookcover

Was watching CNN this afternoon and this report caught my attention. Mainly cos Twilight was mentioned (hehe..) Anyway, there are plans to increase the taxes on imported ’non educational’ books by 5% in the Philippines and this was partly fuelled by the popularity of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga Series as well as JK Rowlings’ Harry Potter series.

According to Hemley, the situation developed this way. Stephenie Meyer’s novel “Twilight” apparently did so well in the bookstores that the number of copies being imported attracted the attention of a Customs official. Examiner Rene Agulan decreed that duties be paid. It seems that the importer of the book reacted in a manner familiar to most book lovers in the country: to eliminate the hassle, the importer complied with the Customs levy on the title.

Hmmm its pretty dodgy seeing that this may curb people’s freedom in reading ‘non-educational’ books ie fiction work. Their argument being to protect local publishers. I’ll let you guys be the judge of it. Read here.

New Moon News (Updated)

MSN Superfans were one of the 5 internet media outlets that were especially invited to Vancouver to visit The Twilight Saga : New Moon set. The other 4 were Hollywood.com, RottenTomatoes.com, HitFix.com, Fandango.com. Lookout in the next few days and weeks for their observations and reports on the Making of New Moon. All of them basically have the same story as they were brought in together a group through the film shoot and met various members of the cast in the space of 2 days. The beauty is reading through their reports for their individual takes on what they saw. ;)

Now lets get back to MSN Superfans’ Myriam Gabriel-Pollock, here’s her report:

It’s about a month and a half into the production of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” and director Chris Weitz and crew have begun filming the highly anticipated Volturi scenes. We are in a soundstage about 45 minutes outside downtown Vancouver, and the dimly lit studio smells of sawdust. Looming almost 40 feet high and occupying most of the building is the Volturi lair’s interior set. The outside of the rotunda is covered in scaffolding, but the interior is breathtaking. Two arched doorways lead into a long hall that follows the curve of the building. Beautiful statuary and ornate columns look so real — until I knock on one and discover that it’s carved and painted Styrofoam. Movie-making magic, indeed!

Day 1

…The screens show Dakota Fanning as Jane and Cameron Bright as Alec, two of the most dangerous and specially gifted Volturi. Michael Sheen is off camera, but his chilling voice intones, “Let’s see if she’s immune to all of us. Shall we, Jane?” Dakota does two more takes of this scene, in which she has no dialogue. She spends long moments looking fiercely at someone (probably Bella) her smug smile slowly giving way to a quiet rage. In her red contact lenses, vampire makeup, and a coiled white-blond up-do, she is the perfect incarnation of a demon with an angel’s face. When Fanning finishes the scene, she comes by with a quick hello before taking leave; up close, her red eyes are even more disconcerting.

…We are leaning against the wall when the stage door opens and a small group enters. As they approach, I notice the tallest one of all; the well-coiffed, bronze hair is a dead giveaway. Robert Pattinson in Edward makeup and clothing, walks right by on his way to the set. In person he is tall and lean, and leaves no doubt that he is the physical embodiment of Edward Cullen, with a profile and facial features that are preternaturally beautiful and heart-stopping.

…The scene we watch is of Aro stepping down from his throne to greet Edward, Bella and Alice, who approach him with great trepidation. Aro cheerfully greets them, “What a happy surprise, Bella is alive after all! I love a happy ending.” He asks Edward, “Her blood appeals to me — how can you stand to be so close to her?” Edward’s restrained, velvet voice answers, “It’s not without its difficulties.” Aro turns to Bella and adds, “Fascinating. I’d like to see if you are an exception to my gift as well. Would you do me the honor?” Bella places her hand in Aro’s, at his behest.

They film this scene at least five times, from different angles, with the camera on different actors. A helpful production assistant explains to me that they take many varied shots of the same scene so the director and film editor will have several angles and shots to choose from when they put the scene together in the editing room.

Day 2

It is Day 2 of our visit, and we return to the Volturi set in Studio B. Ramzy, the Summit representative who’s been acting as our tour guide, tells us we’ll be seeing some wire work today. The scene we are privy to is Edward in pain because of Jane’s mental manipulations.

As we watch, Rob is pulled forward abruptly by wires attached to his wrists. This brings his face very close to the camera and his head fills the monitor screen. He then looks up, neck tendons straining, as his face silently expresses sheer agony, before he drops to the ground with a grunt. I’m not actually sure if the grunt is a result of Rob’s pain or Edward’s pain. He does several takes of this scene, and he’s dropping to the hard floor, not onto a cushion.(!! Ouch)

…It is 3:30 p.m., and we’re famished. We head over to the craft services tent for a late lunch. There is a nice variety of food, nothing out of the ordinary or remarkable, except that the Volturi are also having their lunch. Fanning, Bright, Bewley, Heyerdahl and Sheen are all in here, as well as many other Volturi extras. It looks like a tent full of Marilyn Manson’s relatives. Lunch ends with some fabulous chocolate tarts.

As we wait for our vans, Bright stops by and talks to us for a bit. He’s a sweet young guy who lives just outside of Victoria, British Columbia. He is clearly excited to be a part of “New Moon,” and his enthusiasm is refreshing.

Please read the entire report here.

Myriam also spoke to Cameron Bright and here’s an excerpt of her interview.( Check it out! The Volturis also have their family crest! Woooo ;) )

SUN0524E LEOS 05.jpg

Were you a “Twilight” fan beforehand? Have you read the books?

Never read the books but I did watch the movie. Because a lot of people were saying like, it was half and half— all the guys were saying it was bad, and all the girls were saying it was good. I actually liked it, I didn’t mind it at all. And now obviously, I have to be in it, so…yeah [Laughs.]

Do you get to go to Italy with the rest of the crew?

Nope, the whole Volturi family is going except for me!

Awwww!

Yeah, exactly! [Laughs.] Maybe now they’ll be like, “We’ll send him, out of pity!

Your wardrobe, that pendant you’re wearing—do you know what those symbols are?

I don’t know, they just kind of slapped it on me. I know that’s a “V” for Volturi, I’m guessing? Because I’m a Volturi…I really have no idea what you’re asking. [Laughs.]

Does yours match Daniel’s?

The whole Volturi family has it because that’s their family seal. I don’t really know all of it.

Here’s Fandango’s  Lizerne Guiting’s take on the visit:

Rachelle Lefevre Shares Stunt Secrets

At the end of Day 1, we visited a different sound stage to watch Rob Pattinson film special effects. He wore a dark gray suit with strategically disheveled hair, and spent most of the time standing on a platform in front of what looked like an IMAX-size neon green screen for his scenes in which he appears as a hallucination to Bella. A long dolly track was laid down for the camera to travel from one end of the studio to the other, where he was standing. We media folks stayed at the other end of the track, unable to hear anything he said, but Rachelle Lefevre (who plays Victoria) was also at that end. She let us in on all the stunts she’d been filming, which made up for not being able to hear Rob.

For the past two and half weeks, she’s been filming her own scenes – up 25 feet high in the trees. She and the cast have a running joke about not seeing each other while filming. “I see them all the time at night, but I never see them during the day,” Lefevre says. “They’re like, ‘Where are you?’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, you guys don’t know, but we’re making a whole other movie in the woods, like half an hour away.’”

She has a stunt double, and she’s harnessed while shooting, but that doesn’t quell Lefevre’s fear of heights with all the shooting in the trees. “I’m absolutely terrified when I’m up there,” she says. “I’m like, ‘Wow, I don’t know how I’m gonna bring myself to jump from here, this freefall leap.’ And then they say ‘action’ and you just do it. It’s this bizarre thing where you don’t want to get all the way up there and then not do it. Failure’s just not an option.”

As we mentioned yesterday and confirmed by Rachelle LeFervre on her Twitter,

So unbelievable happy about Xavier cast as Riley!!! He is so lovely & talented & perfect for the role. Ladies, hold on to your hearts…”

Xavier Samuel is Riley in Summit's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

The Daily Telegraph has comments from the 25 year old Australian,

In Eclipse he takes on the role of a newborn vampire named Riley, a good-looking university student involved in a plot to kill Stewart’s character Bella.

Samuel is still getting his head around the Twilight phenomenon.

“I managed to catch the film on the way over on the plane,” he said. He admitted he’s not read any of the best-selling books of the series – yet.

“I’m going to start reading the first one tonight.”

New Moon News (Updated)

Katie Bain of Hollywood.com reveals more details of her trip to the ‘New Moon’ set. This time we get a  minute by minute, play by play of her visit.

May 7, 2009, 3:04PM The Vancouver afternoon is wet and gloomy. The peaks of the North Shore Mountains are obscured in fog. This is weather that might lure out a vampire. Or so I hope. I’m in Vancouver to find them.

Amid the gas stations, superstores and baseball fields of the industrial south side of the city is Vancouver Sound Studios. Our van rolls into the parking lot, and suddenly, I am at the epicenter of a worldwide sensation and a billion teenage (and middleage and every other age) fantasies.

This is the set of New Moon.

3:36PM Our passes for the day say “USM,” for “Untitled Sports Movie.” Seems New Moon, which has been filming here and around Vancouver since March 23, is a major covert operation.

3:37PM The five other reporters and I are escorted onto Stage B. The soundstage is a massive warehouse filled by a nearly-as-massive set. On its outside, the structure looks like a plywood shell, but a glimpse through the door reveals an ornate marble palace very similar in appearance to an traditional Italian cathedral. I have entered the Volturri lair.

3:40PM A bank of monitors display what New Moon director Chris Weitz is filming on the other side of the wall. Onscreen now are Dakota Fanning and Cameron Bright, both Twilight Saga newbies, sporting deathly pallors and red contact lenses. The pretty woman with the long glossy hair sitting to my right is Stephenie Meyer. The only way I could get closer to central command of the Twilight universe would be to climb on her lap and ask her to tell me a story.

…. 4:15PM Stewart, Pattinson and Greene film a scene with the Volturri. It goes (more or less) like this:

[Bella, Alice and Edward, who wears a long maroon cloak, stand near the entrance of the ornate room. Aro steps off the dias towards our daring trio.]

Aro: What a happy surprise. Bella is alive after all. I love a happy ending. They’re so rare. La tua cantante(Italian for “your song”). It makes me thirsty. Her blood appeals to me. How do you stand to be so close to her?

Edward: It’s not without its difficulties. (RP says this with intensity).

Aro:
So now you know everything. Fascinating. I’d love to see if you are an exception to my gift as well. Would you do me the honor?

[Aro seems to meditate on Bella.]

Interesting. I see nothing. I wonder if — let’s see if she’s immune to all of our powers, shall we Jane?

Katie Bain’s coverage is TOTALLY ENJOYABLE (with AWESOME DETAILS) cos you feel you were there with her!! Read more in her 12 PAGE article : Vampires in Vancouver – All Details of our New Moon set visit.

Of the 12 page article interviews were done among others with Michael Sheen, Taylor Lautner, Rachelle LeFevre, Melissa Rosenberg and Charlie Bewley .

Here are excerpts from the interview with the cast & crew members.

Melissa Rosenberg, Screenwriter of The Twilight Saga

Melissa Rosenberg, Screenwriter of The Twilight Saga

An All-About-the-Script Talk With Melissa Rosenberg (Hollywood.com)

How was writing New Moon different from Twilight?
Melissa Rosenberg: In Twilight, you’re setting up the world. You’re introducing the world, and I was also writing in a vacuum because I didn’t know who the actors were going to be. Now you’re going to New Moon and Eclipse, and I could write specifically to them in my mind. So it becomes a more comfortable world.

New Moon is not about setting up the world, but it’s its own set of challenges because New Moon is very internal … There’s been a lot of talk about how Edward and the Cullens are not a part of the middle of New Moon, but actually they are. Certainly Edward is very much alive in Bella’s mind throughout New Moon … I think fans will be very satisfied with what we’re doing — one, because it’s true to the book and two, because there’s more Edward. That can’t be bad!

Rachelle Lefevre plays Victoria in Summit's The Twilight Saga : New Moon

A Stunt-Heavy Interview With Rachelle Lefevre (Hollywood.com)

Will New Moon s action look the same as Twilight’s?
Rachelle Lefevre: It’s so much wirework. It’s so much actual doing-it. In terms of the look of it … I think Chris has approached things as it should be, a little rawer and a little more literally grounded.

I think it was very flighty in the first one, so when we were running fast it was almost like you weren’t touching the ground … I think he’s factored gravity in a little more than they did in the first film, so that might have a different look as a result.

On New Moon‘s underwater action:
RL: I spent six hours in a pool doing the underwater stuff. They did a really interesting thing where they did this amazing stunt with the bit where Bella gets caught in the tidal wave … I think it must have been 2,000 gallons of water in massive – they looked like huge, rectangular cargo containers you put on the back of trains.

First, they did it with a stunt double, and then they did it with Kristen’s photo double, and then they literally, on action, pulled the hatch and she got pummeled with a massive tidal wave and you could watch underwater, which I did because I was in the pool, or you could watch in the monitor. You could literally see her spinning, they created a tidal wave, and they literally filmed until she got spit out. And when it spit her out, the cut was over.

How will New Moon be different from Twilight?
RL: A lot of times when I ask fans, “What’s your favorite book?” people say Twilight. The reason I hear a lot is, “Well, it was my first entry into this world,” and it’s sort of like that first bit that you can never really get back. Your first time. So New Moon is kind of like you know who the characters are, you have some idea of where it’s going, particularly if you’ve read the books, and now what you get to do is watch the real struggle.

Now, nevermind figuring out who everyone is, figuring out who the actors are with who you had in your imagination vs. who they cast. All that is gone, and now all that is set, you get to watch a really horrifically gut-wrenching love triangle. And a real struggle. It’s so character-driven. They haven’t lost any of the actions sequences … but at its heart, I do think it’s becoming a coming-of-age story, more than just a boy-meets-girl romance, which was beautiful, but not as complicated as it gets now that Jacob is really in the mix.

jamiecampbellbower

Jamie Campbell Bower is Caius in Summit's The Twilight Saga : New Moon

A Totally Cool Chit-Chat With Jamie Campbell Bower (Hollywood.com)

What went into your research? Did you read the books? Did you get to talk Stephenie?
JCB: I haven’t had a long discussion with Stephenie. My plan is to have a long discussion with her at some point today. Maybe it won’t be a long discussion, maybe it will be like five minutes.

Yeah, I read the books and I did a lot of online research, because it’s good to know what people who’ve read the books think about the characters as well. Because the books alone have such a huge fan base. You’ve got to stay true to what people want to see, I think. So I did that and talked to lots of people. And my friends gave me their ideas as well.

Did they make you audition for the role?
JCB: They did! They did make me audition. Disgraceful, isn’t it. Shocking!

Did you read the books before you auditioned?
JCB: No, I didn’t read the books before I auditioned, no. I went off the sides. Once I got the role, I obviously read the books. My 15-year-old brother kind of sat me down and insisted. I went back to my mum, and she was like, “You’re going to read this, and you’re going to read it now!’ I was like, “OK, that’s cool.”

JJ Makaro, Stunt Coordinator for Summit's The Twilight Saga : New Moon

JJ Makaro, Stunt Coordinator for Summit's The Twilight Saga : New Moon

A Behind-the-Wires Talk With J.J. Makaro (Hollywood.com)

In the first movie, the goal was to make it more like a Hong Kong action-type thing. Are you going far away from that?
JM: Yeah, we’re trying to tone the Hong Kong aspect down and go more real. Going to the actors, we spent a lot of time talking to them about what their character would be and what kind of performance. Rather than teaching them how to fight in a particular style, we’re trying to adapt our fights to match their style that they already bring with them.

There aren’t a lot of fights on this show. Mostly it’s been about chasing or jumping and transition of being a human to wolf, and selling the fact that the wolf boys are something that we don’t quite understand yet.

Most challenging scene of this movie for you guys?
JM: I think in terms of complications, it’s going to be the fight. Like I say, we’re trying for something different. It’s kind of become cool, because we’ve given ourselves so many limitations that there’s only so many holes you can squeak out of to make it work, and its crated its own thing. It’s really exciting to see what it is.

What adjectives would you use to describe it?
JM: What we’re doing is trying to go inside the vampire world. Everybody always looks at it from the human world. So we see them hanging in the air. We see them doing all this stuff that we think of, but in reality, they’re way faster than us. So there’s a lot going on that we don’t normally see.

Interview With Charlie Bewley (Twilight Lexicon)

Swooning British-Accented Banter With Charlie Bewley(Hollywood.com)

Do you actually know Demetri’s backstory, based on what’s in the book?
CB: I made it up.

Tell us!
CB: Demetri was obviously Italian. And at a young age, he was orphaned. He was living in the foothills of Mt. Vesuvius – the big, volcanic mountain – and in 900 A.D., it erupts. Lava starts pouring down, and his parents get caught in it. Their house gets taken apart. I outrun the lava, into the foothills, where I found a place where I was safe, essentially. But I couldn’t provide for myself, so I was thrown into slavery. I went through various masters but they couldn’t pin me down, because I was so nonchalant and arrogant and just ran away from everyone; it was really frustrating. I kept getting sold on to the next guy – the next master, for the best price they could get – and I was too nice for someone just to kill me.

So eventually I got sold to a merchant trader in Rome, who dealt specifically in fighters, and I found myself in front of the Coliseum with these baying, bloodthirsty Romans, desperate for gladiatorial combat. I didn’t have any fighting skills, so I just ran around for three hours and no one could catch me – until somebody shot me with an arrow. I was lying on the floor, I was about to die, I was waiting for Commodus’ verdict of thumbs up or thumbs down, and he’s about to give it a down when Aro comes in and whispers in his ear and says, “Don’t kill him, I’ll take him.” Aro converts me in the depths of the Coliseum himself, and I’ve been working loyally for him ever since.

Katie Bain ends her AWESOME 12 page reveal with this:

This adventure is coming to a close. En route to the Vancouver airport, Rick, the teamster who’s been driving us around for two days, says that in his years of experience as a set driver, the Twilight pandemonium is one of the more unique things he’s seen.

“When you think about it,” he says, “It’s not really that different from the Beatles. And we’re here to see it. We’ve all been part of a moment.”

Fans and haters will say what they want about the books, the movies, the actors, the screaming girls, the rumored romances and everything else related to this nebulous universe of fanaticism, fame and fiction. Ultimately though, Twilight has wedged itself into our cultural consciousness as a pop culture phenomenon.

Rick is right. Whether we like, love it, or, like, really LOVE it, this is Twilight‘s moment.

Phew!! As promised earlier today, Hitfix has released some more of their interviews with The Twilight Saga : New Moon cast and crew members during their visit to the film location set in Vancouver in May. On this instalment, Hitflix has interviews with Taylor Lautner, Michael Sheen and Wyck Godfrey, one of the producers of the Twilight Saga.

Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black in Summit's The Twilight Saga : New Moon

Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black in Summit's The Twilight Saga : New Moon

Becoming a movie heartthrob is never easy and Taylor Lautner is handling it with as much patience and class that you could expect for a 17-year-old whose become instantly recognizable to almost every teenage girl in his peer group.  So, when this writer and a number of journalists visited the set of The Twilight Saga : New Moon in May, Lautner was kind enough to journey to the Vancouver studio during his offtime to chat about the highly-anticipated sequel.

Q: Can you describe the new movements you had to learn for your Wolf Pack scenes?

Well, I didn’t have anything to do with the Wolf Pack, but I did go through some dirt bike training, because I really hadn’t ridden before. So I had a couple lessons, so when they threw me on the bike I didn’t die. The biggest thing with Jacob’s physicality is, pre-transformation he’s described as clumsy, he trips over his own feet, he’s a little kid. Then, as soon as he transforms, he all of a sudden becomes very agile. So, it wasn’t certain movements or specific things I had to do, it’s just all of my movements together, even as simple as walking, had to have more of a presence, definitely easier than before.

Q: They said that for your Jacob the wolf scenes, they’re going to keep your eyes.

I believe so, because when Bella, all through the books, when she looks into the wolf’s face she sees Jacob’s eyes.

Q: What’s been your favorite scene to film so far?

Um…I’d either say, some cool action scene I got to do, because I really do like the action, or I really like the break up scene. We call it ‘the break up scene.’ It’s the first time Bella sees Jacob after he’s transformed. When she comes to his house, and she sees for the first time that his hair’s cut, he’s different, what’s up…?  And he tells her, ‘We shouldn’t be friends.’ It’s a really emotional scene.

Michael Sheen plays Aro in Summit’s The Twilight Saga : New Moon

During our visit to the Vancouver set of “New Moon” last May, Sheen took a brief break to talk to the small cadre of journalists peeping around the soundstage including this intrepid writer.  Last seen in a double bill of the Oscar-nominated “Frost/Nixon” and the genre flick “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans,” Frost was in full Volturi regalia in what we discovered was only his second day of shooting.   Saying it was great to be “thrown in the deep end” by arriving during the middle of production, Sheen had already shot a number of key scenes.

“The first day of filming we did the 18th century stuff and then one of the modern scenes,” Sheen says. “It was a lot to deal with; the wig, and contact lenses all day and the make-up, but it was fantastic. These sets are amazing. And the look of everyone is so strong so it was great to just kind of get right into it straight away. “

…Sheen has a much different approach to playing Aro than the human-friendly Cullens and credits the author for his inspiration.

“I love the thing in the books that Stephenie [Meyer] wrote about how these vampires are all – well, the Cullen family – really beautiful, and that’s what lures people into their web,” Sheen admits. “And yet, Aro is not like that.  She describes Aro as being not the same sort of thing. I like the idea that it’s his voice that lulls people in or his sort of demeanor rather than the way he looks, because he looks quite weird and scary. But yes, I’ve tried to go down that route [to]make him very mesmerizing to people, that his voice is gentle and soft. And yet, there’s something kind of unhinged about him.”

Wyck Godfrey, Producer of Summit’s The Twilight Saga : New Moon

Q: Was the film more action heavy for the actors like Kristen in particular?

There’s certainly things Kristen had to do that I think she felt a little uncomfortable doing and I think it’s good because it makes Bella seem like she was uncomfortable doing it.  The other day we had her jumping off of a tower against green screens to represent her jump. We had a lot of underwater stuff, you know, when she’s drowning and stuff that she had to do, which is kind of new to Kristen. So I think there’s definitely been areas where she’s pushing herself as an actress just as Bella’s pushing herself as a character. So you kind of get to see it on Kristen’s face and you’re like yeah, that’s what I thought Bella’s was doing.

Q: How is the pandemonium escalated since the filming of the last movie? Is that much more intense with this one?

Apparently this guy Rob Pattinson has gotten to be a big celebrity.

Q: Who? (Laughs.)

He’s a much bigger celebrity than he was when we were making the film a year ago. It’s again, hasn’t been disruptive. It’s just pervasive. I think it’s the hardest thing is for the actors because their lives aren’t their lives as much as they used to be. You know? It’s harder for them to walk outside and go down the street and grab a burger because people are much more aware of them. You notice them on the street. Whereas I think when we were in Oregon, most people wouldn’t have just noticed them on the street because the movie hadn’t come out yet, so I don’t know. It’s the age-old thing for movie stars. The bigger they get the more people know who they are.

Q: Just out of curiosity, with this movie and then with the upcoming ‘Eclipse’ were you surprised at all by any of like the directors who were like actively campaigning to get the role like Drew Barrymore making a public campaign to direct it or have you been surprised by any actors who approached you to be in the sequels?

I honestly having now been involved with it for a year and a half to two years [and] it’s like nothing surprises me about this franchise. Like I wouldn’t be surprised if you know Steven Spielberg said ‘My daughter loves it and [I want to direct it].” It’s just one of those things where people have daughters, people have wives, people have moms.  Like all of a sudden it’s like one of those things that people want to be part of. I mean I think there have been several cases where we had actors who simply wanted to do it because they were fans of the books, not because their agent sent them a random script and they went ‘Oh that’s a great role. Great, we’d love to do that.’

New Moon News (Updated)

Looks like  Hitfix.com and some other internet news outlets (whose news and reveals we are still waiting for!) will be running some The Twilight Saga : New Moon updates of their own! Lookout for these in the next couple of days when Hitflix will publish their interviews with the cast during their visit to the film location in May.

For now here’s some juicy tidbits Hitflix has for us today in their interview with Chris Weitz the director for The Twilight Saga : New Moon.

Q: …. What was your interest in coming on board a franchise that predominately been more popular with women then men?

Actually, in that regard my brother and I often end up doing movies whose audiences are predominantly women or tipping point of success relies on a female audience.  Even ‘American Pie.’ I think the thing that distinguishes it more than the gross-out humor, because there is a lot of that going on.  The way we tooled it was so that girls could be interested in it as well. And, in as much as the ‘Twilight’ series has a great appeal to women, I think it really concentrates on the emotions of the central character and romance and I think that unfortunately that the studio system has not been very good at getting boys to be interested in.  They think and maybe incorrectly, that the male gender is interested in just thing blowing up.  And I don’t think that’s true.  I certainly didn’t make this movie towards only girls or women being interested in seeing it. There is a lot for diverse audiences including older audiences than the first one drew.  Really, we are drawn to the cast. I thought the central cast were great and I wanted to work with them and it also employed some skills that I picked up along the way including working with special effects and working with younger actors and working on emotionally structured stories.

Q: In terms of the effects, I think everyone on this call was probably stunned after we’d been on set and we’d talked to the producer and he was like ‘We’re still working on some of the designs for the wolfpack’ and I think it was like two or three weeks later we saw the first trailer and that great shot at the end.  Have you ever worked in such a quick process from beginning to end?

It is.  I myself was surprised Phil Tippet’s company was able to turn out that wolf shot and I think they kind of did that as a matter of institutional pride that they could.  Even that shot that was in the trailer has gone through 20-30 iterations since then, but they have done a really extraordinary job and Phil Tippet is a complete genius.  He’s responsible for the walkers in ‘Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’ and he’s kind of one of the legends of the visual effects community and it pretty amazing what they have been able to do on such short notice.  We are working at kind of breakneck speed at the same time as trying to achieve something really quite elegant as well.  It’s not just Tippet, it’s Frantic/CBS (LOOK UP) which is headed up by Mike Fink who is my old friend who was the visual effects supervisor on ‘Golden Compass’ which won the Oscar the year it came out. So, yeah, working very fast, but we’re also trying to work as beautifully as possible to make these effect kind of settle into the amazing cinematography that Javier Aguirresarobe brought us.  We are kind of moving at light speed, but trying to deliver something that’s really elegant and beautiful.

Q: Just to follow that up, can you tell us how far along you are to completion right now?

I am about two weeks away from showing the director’s cut to the studio.  I’ve got some wolves with fur.  Some wolves are still invisible basically and some wolves are like — you’ve all probably seen the claymation versions.  We are still in the light RD phases of what Edward looks like when he’s hit — what the vampires look like when he’s hit with light and the diamond effect.  Also, the kind of hallucinatory effect Bella has when she hears Edward’s voice and she imagines him there.  And then we are Alexandre Desplat has just started working on his music for the film. And we are just starting to put together what acts will be on the soundtrack, so it’s kind of like keeping ten plates spinning at once, but it’s all good because we’ve got Alexander Desplat who I think is one of the greatest film composers living and because of the kind of the strength of the franchise that I inherited, a lot of bands are really interested in working on the soundtrack and we got visual effects people. And that just leaves me hopefully not dropping the ball in terms of editing together the story.

Q: Really quickly on the music.  The first movie probably made Paramore as a band.  Were you surprised by the number of acts wanting to be on the sequel and have you had to turn anybody down?

Well, fortunately I’m not at the stage where I have to turn anybody down yet, because everything is still kind of up in the air, but I am surprised by some of the bands that have said they are interested. It’s kind of great.  The criteria will still be what’s right for the movie at that given moment, but y’know, Thom Yorke is interested.  We might, if we’re very lucky, get Kings of Leon to do something.  So, it’s exciting to have access to this kind of talent.

Q: Can you tell us about the proposal scene at the end of the book? Fans are worried that it’s either been altered or cut out of the film. Can you address those concerns?

They haven’t been cut out.  I can tell you that much. It’s not going to hit them the exact way they think it’s going to, but I will say  — how can I put it?  It’s going to be quite special.  I could have saved all of my gusto for that moment.  I don’t think it will disappoint.

Katie Bain of Hollywood.com was at the film location as well and here’s what she has to say – mostly about Robert Pattinson on the The Twilight Saga : New Moon set. Her write up is in a numbered list form. :)

… 2. Like the rest of the cast, Pattinson’s canvas director’s chair had his character’s name (that would be “Edward Cullen”) embroidered on the backrest. On Robert’s chair, however, “Edward Cullen” was covered with yellow tape, on which “ROBERT” was written in bold black marker. Seems our fantasy boy likes to keep things “real.”

… There were also pictures of him coming out of the printer as I walked by it. Literally. Everyone in the buzzy office seemed to be as dazzled by him just as we, of the general population, are — especially the harem of young, attractive women working there.

10. I stood behind Stephenie Meyer while watching Pattinson, Stewart, Ashley Greene, Michael Sheen, Cameron Bright and Dakota Fanning film a scene in the Volturri lair. It went a little something like this:

Edward, Bella and Alice stand in front of the Volturri. Edward, looking many gray shades of haggard, takes a dramatic step toward the vampires and seems to hit an invisible wall. He crumbles to the ground, writhing in pain. Alice, wearing red gloves, crouches down to tend to him.

Bella: “Stop, stop! Try it on me. Just stop hurting him!”

This scene was done at least five times, and despite it taking place on the other side of the set’s massive wall, I could hear the thud of Pattinson’s body hitting the ground each time. There’s no way this felt good. The man suffers for his art.

12. Regardless of the international pandemonium he causes, Rob is, according to co-star Lafevre, really just a humble, friendly guy.

She says, “Twilight was a very ego-less set, and the thing that’s really a relief is that everyone has stayed the same way. Outside we may be able to go outside and just get in a cab, whereas Rob has to do CIA-evasive maneuvers to meet at the same restaurant, but when we get to the restaurant and we sit down, everything is exactly the same.”

13. People cater to the boy. One of the stage managers made a point of putting together a plate of food for Robert so he wouldn’t miss a meal while filming, saying: “Just tell me what Robert wants, and I’ll set it aside for him.”

This must be what it’s like to be treated like a movie star, as no one offered me anything to eat.

14. Even Taylor Lautner has Pattinson envy. When I asked Lautner the one bonus power he would bestow on Jacob, he responded, “I want to steal one of Edward’s powers.” Seems even werewolves get jealous.

15. The only time I saw the very elusive Kristen Stewart not on a monitor was when she walked by me on her way to the set. She was with Robert. Maybe this means all those secret relationship rumors are true … nah, I’m pretty sure it was because they were both to be in a scene together. So I’d like to think …

New Moon News [edited]

New Moon News (Updated)

Today, The Sun Sentinel.com has a great Behind The Scene – The Twilight Saga : New Moon article. We get an insight of how the Edwards’s apparition is shot and Chris Weitz vision for New Moon.

Robert Pattinson is having an Obi-Wan Kenobi moment. Inside a soundstage where “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” is shooting, the lanky English heartthrob stands in front of a tall, wide green screen murmuring a tender admonition, “You promised me nothing reckless.” Motion capture cameras hurtle toward him across a length of track affixed to the stage floor, while a team of technicians studies his stance and the tilt of his head.

The plan is to digitally insert Pattinson, who plays swoony good guy vampire Edward Cullen, into a scene that was filmed much earlier—one in which he appears as an apparition to his costar, Kristen Stewart, cautioning her headstrong character Bella Swan against hanging out with some unsavory-looking biker types. For the effect to work, Pattinson’s image will need to be dropped in at exactly the right position, so despite the cast and crew nearing the end of a very long early May day, perfectionism is still the standard. …

…..During post-production on (Golden) “Compass,” concerns over the story’s take on organized religion and its grim ending caused studio New Line to take control of the $180 million movie.

The film earned only $70 million domestically, though it fared better overseas, and Weitz still despairs that he was unable to faithfully execute Pullman’s vision. (New Line declined to comment for this story.)

“It’s one of the great sadnesses of my life that it didn’t turn out the way I intended it,” he says.

“New Moon,” a story about surviving the ultimate heartbreak and loss, is Weitz’s chance to heal his wounds and find a new creative path. It’s a path that winds through the gloomy forests of the Pacific Northwest and the Italian village of Multipulciano. The last three days of the shoot will happen there, but before then, Weitz needs to complete the complicated camera maneuvers that will enable him to transform Pattinson’s Edward into a spectral vision. …

..Godfrey points out that “Eclipse” is darker in tone than the stories that precede it and more action-packed, making Slade the right choice.

A bigger question mark hangs over what is the most adult entry in Meyer’s series, “Breaking Dawn.” Godfrey was mum as to specifics, saying only that everyone involved fully intends to make what would be the fourth movie. (The Web site imdb.com lists “Breaking Dawn” as in development with a tentative 2011 release date.)

“We’re shooting ‘New Moon,’ prepping ‘Eclipse,’ doing all the marketing—it’s a little overwhelming to really think in a detailed manner of how we’re going to crack this, but we have every intention to,” he said of “Dawn.”

It’s now July, and in only a few days, Weitz will face 6,000-plus screaming fans as he unveils some never-before-seen footage from “New Moon” at Comic-Con International in San Diego. At last year’s convention, months before “Twilight” was released,” the delighted squeals were nearly deafening….

Apparently a Twilight fan have taken to cliff diving in order to emulate what the Wolf Pack and Bella did in the book/movie New Moon. The Twilight Examiner’s Amanda Bell has a story on it.

A recent press release from the Quileute Nation has highlighted a very disturbing set of recent events. According to them, one Twilight fan took anticipation for The Twilight Saga: New Moon a little too far. Says the release, “A Twilight fan visiting Quileute from Georgia was rescued from an island they surmised could be the location where the main character Bella Swan goes cliff diving in the 2nd book of the Twilight saga New Moon.”

Taylor Lautner had an interview with Interview Magazine.

When rumors surfaced last year that 17-year-old Taylor Lautner would not appear in theTwilight sequel because he was too physically slight to portray a bookworm-turned-werewolf, a great shriek rose from Fangirl Island. “Noooooo!!” wrote one obsessive on a Twilightdiscussion board. “omg. Pleezze let Taylor come back,” implored another. Some were more militant: “If they don’t put him in . . . there will be a massive Twilight fan attack!”
