Twilight Book Discussion: Complications

It has been a long, long time since we have another chapter discussion. We have said that we would try to have a chapter discussion every week… but well it didn’t happen.
As most of us are busy with school and work, we will try our very best to post a discussion whenever we can. Hopefully we can finish the Twilight book discussion before the release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. *fingers crossed*
Anyhow, a few weeks back we posted on Chapter 10: Interrogations. Now we will be proceeding on to Chapter 11: Complications.
“Hey, Bella,” called a familiar, husky voice from the driver’s side of the little black car.
“Jacob?” I asked, squinting through the rain. Just then, Charlie’s cruiser swung around the corner, his lights shining on the occupants of the car in front of me.
Jacob was already climbing out, his wide grin visible even through the darkness. In the passenger seat was a much older man, a heavyset man with a memorable face – a face that overflowed, the cheeks resting agaisnt his shou, ders, with creases running through the russet skin like an old leather jacket. And the surprisingly familiar eyes, black eyes that seemed at the same time both too young and too ancient for the broad face they were set in. Jacob’s father, Billy Black. I knew him immediately, though in the more than five years since I’d seen him last I’d managed to forget his name when Charlie had spoken of him my first day here. He was staring at me, scrutinizing my face, so I smiled tentatively at him. His eyes were wide, as if in shock or fear, his nostrils flared. My smile faded.
Another complication, Edward had said.
Billy stared at me with intense, anxious eyes. I groaned internally. Had Billy recognized Edward so easily? Could he really believe the impossible legends his son had scoffed at?
The answer was clear in Billy’s eyes. Yes. Yes, he could.
1. From your first impression of Billy Black, what do you think of him? And why did you think Billy gave such a response to Bella? “His eyes were wide, as if in shock or fear, his nostrils flared.“?
2. Apart from the ‘complications’ in this chapter, Edward had asked Bella a few questions and one of them was what was her favourite gemstone. What is your favourite gemstone and if you do know it, what is your birth stone?
3. “It’s twilight. It’s the safest time of day for us.” Why do you think Edward said this? Furthermore, what is the safest or favourite time of the day for you?

1. Well he seems to be a man who cannot really hide his emotions haha, they are clearly written on his face. and i think he reacted that way because he had just seen her with one of the Cullens, who don’t have a “good reputation” down at the reservation, and was worried about her, and also shocked that she would willingly associate with them. my first impression was that he is a very superstitious person, whose emotions hide in plain sight.
2. my fave gemstone is the emerald =D it’s just such a nice green.
but my birth stone is either rose quartz or opal, it differs where you check. haha. i do love opals though!
3. i think it’s the safest time of day for them because the sun isn’t strong, in fact its just about gone, so they are free to roam without giving away their secret with their sparkly exteriors! =p and maybe since they don’t have to worry about being revealed, they might generally be alot calmer, and therefore safer (for humans). LOL.
my favourite time of day is night! =D haha.. safe cos i don’t have to be burnt by the sun? lol!
woo! haven’t discussed in a book discussion for awhile
