Twilight Book Discussion: Nightmares
Apologies for the delay. Bessy is busy with school work so I volunteered to help her out. This week we will be touching on Chapter 7: Nightmares. Happy discussing! 
First, I had to decide if it was possible that what Jacob had said about the Cullens could be true.
Immediately my mind responded with a resounding negative. It was silly and morbid to entertain such ridiculous notions. But what, then? I asked myself. There was no rational explanation for how I was alive at this moment. I listed again in my head the things I’d observed myself: the impossible speed and strength, the eye colour shifting from black to gold and back again, the inhuman beauty, the pale, frigid skin. And more – small things that registered slowly – how they never seemed to eat, the disturbing grace with which they moved. And the way he sometimes spoke, with unfamiliar cadences and phrases that better fir the style of a turn-of-the-century novel than that of a twenty-first-century classroom. He had skipped class the day we’d done blood typing. He hadn’t said no to the beach trip till he heard where we were going. He seemed to know what everyone around him was thinking… except me. He had told me he was the villain, dangerous…
Could the Cullens be vampires?
Well, they were something. Something outside the possibility of rational justification was taking place in front of my incredulous eyes. Whether it be Jacob’s cold ones or my own superhero theory, Edward Cullen was not… human. He was something more.
1. In the first part of the chapter, Bella was playing a CD of Phil’s favourite band. “… they used a little too much bass and shrieking for my tastes.” Without using your knowledge of what you know about Twilight, what type of genre or band did you think Bella was listening to the first time you read this chapter?
2. In her nightmare, Bella saw Jacob transformed into a werewolf and Edward with sharp teeth beckoning her over. So why do you think she dreamed of Edward and Jacob in that particular way?
3. Bella was reading Pride & Prejudice in her lawn. Stephenie mentioned that one of her inspirations to write Twilight was Pride & Prejudice. In your own opinion, why did Stephenie regard P & P as one of her inspirations for Twilight?
4. It was mentioned that Bella felt awkward having a conversation with Mike. On the other hand, she felt more at ease talking to Angela. Why do you think so?
1. Linkin Park? Red Jumpsuit Apparatus? Metal/rock?I have honestly no idea
2. I have a secret thought that Bella sort of dreams of the truth, like Jacob being a werewolf, Edward being a vampire, well, that sort. I’m not implying that she predicts things in her dreams, but more so like she sort of knows things already but just doesn’t see it yet. But this is not always true though, because part of her dreams are developed(evolved?) from her fears of whoever.
3. I have no idea!! I haven’t had the chance to get my hands on pride and prejudice, and i only intend to touch it after my O’s. (oopsy!)
4. She felt weird being too in contact with Mike? I mean she already has Edward in her heart, mind, blahhh. Maybe she feels weird to be “touchy(on Mike’s part)” with a guy, especially since she strictly just wants to be friends with him. Maybe, she wishes that Edward was the one who notice the redness in her hair when in the sun and tuck the loose lock behind her ear. *Gush, gush*

1. MUSE FO-SHO! Even when Edward was in his car listening to VIOLENT music, I had a feeling it was Muse. PLUS, SMeyers loves Muse! So why shouldn’t she pay tribute to them in the book?
My guess. HAHA!
2. maybe because it was apparent that Jacob and Edward despised each other, therefore transforming both into a wolf and a vampire; enemies. not really sure bout this one.
3. Maybe because at first Mr Darcy/Edward is hostile to Elizabeth/Bella, but soon they develop feelings for each other, and when they did, the feelings were VERY, VERY, Strong. I think it was mainly Darcy who inspired SMeyers (read that somewhere).
4. I think it was because she knew that Mike had feelings for her, and felt that their conversations were awkward due to that fact. Mike also bugged her a bit, as compared to Angela, who knew when to keep her distance. And I’m sure we can surmise that Angela has no romantic feelings for Bella whatsoever. DEFINITELY LESS AWKWARD!

1. Linkin Park- S. Meyer states on her website that this is indeed the band she’s listening to in her Twilight FAQ section:
– What CD is Bella listening to in Chapter Seven?
I took that information out because I wasn’t sure how long it was going to take to
get Twilight published. If it took ten years, would the band still be cool, or would
it be embarrassing? Lucky for me, it didn’t take that long, and the band is still
quite cool (in my eyes, at least). Bella is listening to Linkin Park. As I am at this
very moment.
2. It’s S. Meyer’s way of foreshadowing. But in Bella’s case, she was just told about the ‘cold ones’ and that the Quiluete tribe decended from wolves. Dreams are your subconsious thoughts. Deeply she knows/thinks the Cullens are vampires and the Quiluete Tribe are werewolfs

4. I agree with Tasha- she knows Mike has a crush on her so thats awkward enough especially when she doesn’t have feelings for him in return. Angela is described as the only one who doesn’t have to hold a conversation or gossip every second (this is described more in later books). Clearly less awkward because she’s a female.
