Twilight Online Book Discussion: Invitations

Without further ado, welcome to Chapter 4: Invitations!
“Bella, you are utterly absurd,” he said, his low voice cold.
My palms tingled – I wanted so badly to hit something. I was surprised at myself. I was usually a nonviolent person. I turned my back and started to walk away.
“Wait,” he called. I kept walking, sloshing angrily through the rain. But he was next to me, easily keeping pace.
“I’m sorry, that was rude,” he said as we walked. I ignored him. “I’m not saying it isn’t true,” he continued, “but it was rude to say, anyway.”
“Why won’t you leave me alone?” I grumbled.
“I wanted to ask you something, but you sidetracked me,” he chuckled. He seemed to have recovered his good humor.
“Do you have a multiple personality disorder?” I asked severely.
“You’re doing it again.”
I sighed. “Fine then. What do you want to ask?”
“I was wondering if, a week from Saturday – you know, the day of the spring dance -”
“Are you trying to be funny?” I interrupted him, wheeling toward him. My face got drenched as I looked up at his expression.
His eyes were wickedly amused. “Will you please allow me to finish?”
I bit my lip and clasped my hands together, interlocking my fingers, so I couldn’t do anything rash.
“I heard you say you were going to Seattle that day, and I was wondering if you wanted a ride.”
That was unexpected.
Q1: “Why won’t you leave me alone?” I grumbled. Do you think Bella really meant it when she asked Edward to leave her alone? Why or why not?
Q2: Why did Bella think that the only conclusion that was available, was that Edward regretted saving her?
Q3: What were your first impressions when Eric and Tyler both replied to Bella’s rejection with “next time” and “we still have prom” respectively, with regards to character analyzing as well as storyline wise?
Q4: Okay, once again, I haven’t read MS yet, so if the answer’s really there, whatever, ignore it! Problem is, why do you think Edward invited Bella to drive to Seattle with him, yet warned her to stay away?
I am so sorry people, the questions this time round aren’t so good. I’m rushing off to bed FYI, and I’ll be gone for about two days. Have fun replying to thin air! Right, okay kidding.

Q1: “Why won’t you leave me alone?” I grumbled. Do you think Bella really meant it when she asked Edward to leave her alone? Why or why not?
I think she probably just meant to ask Edward to leave his weird mood swings away from her. She’s annoyed, blah blah.
Q2: Why did Bella think that the only conclusion that was available, was that Edward regretted saving her?
Well, duh, she didn’t know that Edward was a vampire. And she didn’t know the reasons behind Edward’s behavior around her. To Edward, his behavior seems like he is protecting her from him, but to Bella, his behavior is telling her that he regretted saving her. Actually, I’m not very sure how to answer this.
Q3: What were your first impressions when Eric and Tyler both replied to Bella’s rejection with “next time” and “we still have prom” respectively, with regards to character analyzing as well as storyline wise?
HUH? erm, hopelessly wishing? Sorry, my brain’s too fried up to analyze.
Q4: Okay, once again, I haven’t read MS yet, so if the answer’s really there, whatever, ignore it! Problem is, why do you think Edward invited Bella to drive to Seattle with him, yet warned her to stay away?
I think it’s in MS. Anyway, for the warning part, it’s pretty obvious. As for the going-to-seattle-with-him part, he probably craves for her company, and also wants Bella to be safe.

Q1: “Why won’t you leave me alone?” I grumbled. Do you think Bella really meant it when she asked Edward to leave her alone? Why or why not?
I dont think she meant it. Maybe she was seriously irritated after rejecting Eric and Mike( she doesn’t like the limelight?), and Edward’s poking fun of her because of this?
Q2: Why did Bella think that the only conclusion that was available, was that Edward regretted saving her?
Because he said something like its better if we aren’t friends and stuff. She thinks that Edward might be thinking that he is being implicated into “this” by Bella thus she thinks that Edward regretted saving her? My answer makes no sense but nonetheless. LOL.
Q3: What were your first impressions when Eric and Tyler both replied to Bella’s rejection with “next time” and “we still have prom” respectively, with regards to character analyzing as well as storyline wise?
Wishful thinking. LOL. I don’t really get it!
Q4: Okay, once again, I haven’t read MS yet, so if the answer’s really there, whatever, ignore it! Problem is, why do you think Edward invited Bella to drive to Seattle with him, yet warned her to stay away?
He wants her company and feels protective of her, thus wants to follow wherever she goes or something? He warns her because he is dangerous. He might lose control of himself and kill her? :/

I missed answering these questions! But school is like ?! and I am stumped by JC life. I feel like I’ve been thrust into a pool of ice-cold water. By the way, does everyone think I’m a guy?
Q1: “Why won’t you leave me alone?” I grumbled. Do you think Bella really meant it when she asked Edward to leave her alone? Why or why not?
Both, I guess. Let me reason this out so that it’s not so confusing to explain. Firstly, yes. I think it was as if she was saying this as a double meaning – pun maybe – because a) she wants Edward to leave her alone, not confuse her with his cryptic questions and b) also because she was kind of voicing her thoughts out loud that she wanted to stop thinking about Edward. Understandable? Sorry if it isn’t. Secondly, slightly no because she obviously likes to get to know him past his cold facade.
Q2: Why did Bella think that the only conclusion that was available, was that Edward regretted saving her?
Well, Edward had been behaving strangely towards her. After the accident, it’s said that she was surrounded by people whereas Edward wasn’t and blah blah and also that Edward didn’t look at her and also appeared to be completely unaware of her during Biology except for his favourite action of white knuckles. Here is my take on Bella’s thoughts:
What the heck is he doing? – cringing away from me – he’s probably disgusted – why? – he’s ignoring me – as if I don’t exist – maybe he wishes I don’t exist – maybe he regrets saving me!!!
LOL.
Q3: What were your first impressions when Eric and Tyler both replied to Bella’s rejection with “next time” and “we still have prom” respectively, with regards to character analyzing as well as storyline wise?
First impressions? I laughed and thought that both of them were very desperate, haha. More so for Eric, because Tyler obviously wanted to make it up for almost killing her. I mean, Eric’s voice broke on the last word!
ERIC: I thought that he was pretty loser-ish because he asked her although it was girls’ choice. And he wasn’t cool about it – breaking voice! – but was seriously uncomfortable and ashamed of himself. But in regards to the storyline, I was happy and amused that she said no.
TYLER: I thought that he was rather shameless as well, because of the girls’ choice thing. I was also a little annoyed because he hadn’t shown interest in Bella before and only did so afterwards. So I felt that he wasn’t really being chivalrous or anything but he was guilty and pretty desperate.
I have actually limited ideas on how to answer this question.
Q4: Okay, once again, I haven’t read MS yet, so if the answer’s really there, whatever, ignore it! Problem is, why do you think Edward invited Bella to drive to Seattle with him, yet warned her to stay away?
He wanted her to be under watch – by him – so that she would be (confirmed and guaranteed) safe. And then he wanted to warn her – although how the heck would anybody understand his warning when there’s no idea of him being a vampire – that she might be subject to danger from him instead. So from danger from other people to only danger from him.

SORRY I DELAYED REPLIES. Just came back from OC, and lots of overdue homework! *hops around*
@ Shi Ting: LOL @ your answer for 2. You’re basically looping around.
@ Kelly: Maybe she was seriously irritated after rejecting Eric and Mike( she doesn’t like the limelight?), and Edward’s poking fun of her because of this?
Yupp, I think she was seriously irritated too. Like, after all the weird attention that has been showered on her, she doesn’t need one more person harping on it. Or, in this case, an unbelievably gorgeous vampire. XD
She thinks that Edward might be thinking that he is being implicated into “this” by Bella thus she thinks that Edward regretted saving her?
I actually understand your answer. So that means you think that Bella concluded that Edward regretted saving her because he was now involved in this whole situation and he’d even said that they shouldn’t be friends, right, that’s why he regretted not letting her get squashed? Yes?
@ darcy: Eh no, I assume that everyone here are all females despite the alias they use until they correct moi. Yay.
a) she wants Edward to leave her alone, not confuse her with his cryptic questions and b) also because she was kind of voicing her thoughts out loud that she wanted to stop thinking about Edward. Understandable?
Absolutely!
What the heck is he doing? – cringing away from me – he’s probably disgusted – why? – he’s ignoring me – as if I don’t exist – maybe he wishes I don’t exist – maybe he regrets saving me!!!
Okay, that’s so in-depth. LOL.
More so for Eric, because Tyler obviously wanted to make it up for almost killing her. I mean, Eric’s voice broke on the last word!
I actually had the impression that Tyler wasn’t so much trying to make up but rather found that this whole deal was such an opportunity for him. Look at him – in the hospital he never stopped apologizing. He wanted so desperately for Bella to not hold it against him because he doesn’t want to offend a pretty girl, the new girl.
Thus he pounces at the chance to ask her out and is so desperate that he really waits till prom, you know.
But Eric is just pure stubborn.
He wanted her to be under watch – by him – so that she would be (confirmed and guaranteed) safe. And then he wanted to warn her – although how the heck would anybody understand his warning when there’s no idea of him being a vampire – that she might be subject to danger from him instead.
Haha, exactly what I thought. Sigh.

OC? Orange County US? Anyway, in’t Q2 basically poking around one conclusion? It’s either she thinks that she thinks that he thinks that she implicated him or his behavior, no?
January 20, 2009 at 10:57 pm
@ Shi Ting: Nope, Orientation Camp. And really? I didn’t know it was that bad. Damn. Like I said, I was pretty tired when I got those questions out. Sigh.
January 22, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Yes, yes! You’re right. “Are you trying to be funny?” Bella’s classic reply. LOL.
January 23, 2009 at 11:29 pm
LOL. YES. It’s so Bella.
