Twilight Online Book Discussion: Phenomenon
AREN’T YOU EXCITED? HERE COMES THE MOST DEFINING SCENE, AND IT’S FROM CHAPTER 3: PHENOMENON! It really is extraordinary.
Just before I heard the shattering crunch of the van folding around the truck bed, something hit me, hard, but not from the direction I was expecting. My head cracked against the icy blacktop, and I felt something solid and cold pinning me to the ground. I was lying on the pavement behind the tan car I’d parked next to. But I didn’t have a chance to notice anything else, because the van was still coming. It had curled gratingly around the end of the truck and, still spinning and sliding, was about to collide with me again.
A low oath made me aware that someone was with me, and the voice was impossible not to recognize. Two long, white hands shot out protectively in front of me, and the van shuddered to a stop a foot from my face, the large hands fitting providentially into a deep dent in the side of the van’s body.
Then his hands moved so fast they blurred. One was suddenly gripping under the body of the van, and something was dragging me, swinging my legs around like a rag doll’s, till they hit the tire of the tan car. A groaning, metallic thud hurt my ears, and the van settled, glass popping, onto the asphalt – exactly where, a second ago, my legs had been.
It was absolutely silent for one long second before the screaming began.
1. Hohoho, how do you think Tyler managed to lose control of his van other than because of the ice? (I know there’s a brief explanation in the chapter, but use your ~imagination~)
2. ‘”Hey, Edward, I’m really sorry -” Tyler began.
Edward lifted a hand to stop him.
“No blood, no foul.”‘
What other underlying meanings are there to Edward’s reply, whether he meant them or not?
3. We know that Edward didn’t know the real reason behind why he saved Bella but looking at his character, what do you think was the motive that made him act to shift her away and not get squished?
4. Why do you think Bella dreamt of Edward that night?
WOOT.
1. Tyler might have been late for school and drove fast to get to school on time.
2. I’m not really sure about this.
3. He didn’t want to watch her die in front of his eyes. And in MS, Edward felt that if she had been crushed by the van, her blood would be everywhere and he would lose control of himself. xD
4. She might have been thinking about what happened and how Edward got to her so fast and she starts to dream about it I guess. LOL.

1. LOL, he could’ve been thinking of the many ways to ask bella to prom, then got lost in his thoughts xD
2. No blood (possible referring to no blood of Bella’s being spilt) and thus, no foul (he didn’t lose control of himself and drink her blood, since there wasn’t any spilt).?
3. I think it was partially because he was ‘fascinated’ by her, and also because of the whole La Tua Cantante thing, and also that he cared for her. Not sure if this was after the car accident, but in MS, he realised he was in love with her at the cafeteria.
4. I think it was because she had been so overwhelmed with him. She could have been thinking about him just before she fell asleep, because that can also cause you to dream about whatever it was that you were thinking about prior to you falling asleep. And she could’ve already had feelings for him.

Anyway, for your answer to number 3, that was only a reason he thought up of later so he could explain to his family. At the time, it’s known that all he could think of was, “Not her.” But why? That’s what I’m asking.

2. The frenzy wouldn’t start if Bella’s blood isn’t spilled = no blood, thus he doesn’t break the rules= no foul? o.o LOL.
3. He fell in love with her! Those strong emotions, ” NOT HER ” portrayed that he didn’t want her to die?
4. Edward wasn’t telling her how he saved her and she broods about it, wondering how he did it and drifts to sleep? :l

1. OOH, probably he’s thinking of something deeply, like asking Bella to the prom? He’s just distracted by thoughts which made him lose focus on the road. (HAHA I realised I got the same answer as Tasha)
2. Since Edward and Bella’s not hurt, he’s probably thinking the matter shouldn’t be mentioned or even take it too seriously. After all, at that point of time, he wants to talk to Bella, and since Tyler interrupted him, Edward just want to shut him up. XD
3. His character? Hmm. He’s a very insecure person, for sure. Probably because at that point of time, he already have special feelings for Bella, only he didn’t realise, since he has no heart (LOL). And also probably if Bella died, he would have no personal brand of heroine, therefore no blood scent to make him “high”.
HAHAHAHA.
4. LOLOLOL!! Kinky question!!! *grins* Ahhh, Bella’s probably having too much thinking on Edward, especially since after the accident and being the superhuman hero, so it comes naturally for her to bring that thoughts up to her dreams. He loved her. Maybe at that point of time he didn’t know how deep it was, and saving her probably made that love surface. Remember, “no, not her”? I think that’s the quote. Possibly because he was so drawn to her and that Bella made his life all interesting again that this fatal attraction brought him to save her.
4. Why do you think Bella dreamt of Edward that night?
Do you realise that most of her dreams are sort of true. Like Jacob a werewolf, etc? Hmmm… anyway, I forgot about that chapter, as in the ending. They didn’t say why she dreamt of Edward right? My theory is that SOME dreams reflect upon the experiences we’ve had throughout the day or whatever and our minds somehow weave to a point where truth prevails(MUAHAHA) Like Edward the vampire case.
Make sense? Doubt so, I’m a little high. WOOPSY! Omg-.-, I can’t believe myself.

MS stands for Edward’s POV of Twilight. The draft can be found in SM’s website.
La Tua Cantante means “Your Singer”. It means Bella’s blood literally sings to Edward.
Nope, the cafeteria is in their school.
The place where Edward bought Bella for dinner is in Port Angeles.

Anyway, my friends think I’m too crazy over twilight and they literally call me crazy. Even for those who do like twilight aren’t crazy about twilight enough to follow it online. I’m possibly the only twi-hard in my level. They just think the guys are hot, that’s probably it.

@ Elaine: That’s in Port Angeles. The book called the cafe/restaurant “La Bella Italia” But in the movie it was called “The Bloated Toad”.

Always bear this in mind: You. Are. Not. Alone. I love Twilight so much after reading it that I literally gushed about Edward Cullen to my brother every morning and evening. When school started last year (to make a long story short), my infatuation with it was so strong I literally made my whole level pick up the books, directly or indirectly.
And then when the movie hype picked up, the students from my level influenced the juniors while some of my friends pestered their seniors and now practically my whole school has read it. I went crazy and would bring my tablet PC to school daily just so I could surf up on the newest news and I hated the school network because the connection was so slow and the pictures couldn’t load fast enough. XD
People have named me the most hardcore Twilighter, and I actually don’t mind that superlative. It can be glued to me for like forever.
And that is what Twilight Singapore is for!

@ Tasha: I KNOW RIGHT! The toad which is so bloated omg. Such a cute name for the restaurant, srsly.
Talking of quotes and stuff, you know that day we were having PE, and the teacher made us group into teams of 3 or 4, and we used volleyballs to play this funny game that progressed to a stage where eventually we had to use volleyball techniques to hit the ball over to the opponent’s court.
A few times I whacked the ball so hard but my aiming wasn’t good so my arm got slightly bruised for the moment and the ball just went out of the court.
To be honest, I’ve never enjoyed being so inept before.
Also, the teams were separated by this raffia string that was tied from one netball stand to another netball stand on opposite ends of the court. So when our teacher made us get up to embark on the game, my team and I had to duck under the string to get to our area, and I was like, “Let’s go to the dark side.” Eunice (my bff) corrected me by saying, “To get to the other side…”
And I just rattled off the next few lines from the scene there and then. LOL.

@ Mrs Edward Cullen: Heh, actually, apart from Twilight which is with me now, New Moon is upstairs in an empty paper bag. Beside it is another paper bag full of my miscellaneous Twilight merchandise. If my house catches fire, I’ll grab Twilight, my two paper bags, my Twilight mug (which I use all the time) and my MP3 player because it contains the complete complete Twilight soundtrack.
I’ll run out with my tablet PC after that, for I need a platform to tell you guys I survived the fire and so did my Twilight stuff. Maybe I may salvage my school textbooks too, if I have time. But then again, maybe not.

Hahaha, maybe because I don’t have the time to read so much into some things. Rushing, so it’s straightforward.
Oh boy, whenever I talk about twilight or Taylor Lautner, my girl friends will like aiyah, yah yah, he’s cute or pfffft, twilight. And my guy friends will be like twilight very nice meh! or I’m not gay.
You know, in Phenomenon, Bella said “thank you” in the hospital, fuming and expectant. But in the movie, she was just like “thank you”, quick and waiting. It’s just different and not how I’d expected it to be. It’s just weird! I was also kind of anticipating the scene in the hospital room thing with Bella, Edward and Tyler. Kirsten Stewart seems like she can’t pull off sarcasm too(from what I see in Twilight).
O:, no idea why I’m criticising so much. Oh well!
