Twilight is out!!
Today is the premiere of Twilight in the United States and we’re 27 days away from our very own premiere date! So in conjunction with the premiere of Twilight, we have a new banner and a surprise for you guys this Sunday! Do look out for Twilight Singapore in this week’s Sunday Times!
Regarding the photo contest, we thought of giving you guys an example of how it should be:
Featuring Twilight Singapore staff members from left to right: Bessy, Izzati, Maria, Aishah and Nash at Shaw, Lido
You take a picture with your group of fans with the Twilight poster/ theatrical poster/standee at the background with an indication of what team you are – Team Edward or Team Jacob. Take the pictures in 10 different places and then send it to us! (P.S: There are more than 10 cinemas in Singapore and there are places with Twilight posters).
Furthermore, we have heard information that Bugis Junction will have a Twilight themed mall starting from next week, so do look out for that!

“More recently, I have influenced my younger brother to read Twilight. Honestly speaking, he’s not a person who LOVES to read. Yeah, sure, he likes his short Geronimo Stilton and Bionicle Books, but make him read anything thicker, he’d vehemently refuse and opt to have purple hands instead, if that was the alternative choice. So I started him off slowly by making him read another genre of novels (Pendrgon Series – D.J. MacHale), and then I fed him twilight. He’s still reading it right now. Alas, he hasn’t gotten very far, and has a strange concept in his mind that Mike Newton is a very important character. (Well… he’d find out in time.)
Most recently, in fact, it was just this Sunday, I think my incessant fangirling over twilight has finally gotten to him… He went over to my younger brother’s bedroom to swipe my copy of Twilight while my brother was at swimming lesson. He sat down and started reading the book. I went wide-eyed. Who am I talking about? My father. He’s mid-way through Twilight now. I’m not sure how he’ll react to his daughter fangirling over a guy who sits in his girlfriends bedroom to watch her sleep though.” – Tricia Loo
“It may sound exaggerated but I sorta started a chain reaction and converted nearly everyone in the level of my school!!!
After reading Twilight I recommended it to my friends. They did’nt really seem too fond of it but then one of my friends saw e book when he was out and decided to buy it. After he finished it we had loads to talk about… After hearing the both of us ramble so much about the book it sparked an interest in the rest of my friends. So they either borrowed or bought the book. As expected they loved it as well. Some even finished it all up in a matter of days. When we brought the book to school, it caused a chain reaction and word slowly spread. Before I knew it nearly the whole school was reading the Twilight saga. Even the guys. ” – Liyana Aziz
“Well, i’ve converted about 5 people to read Twilight.
The first was my 12 year old cousin. I kept talking about Twilight and she had no idea about it since she just ended PSLE and so i bought her a Twilight book for her birthday and now she is hooked.
The others are my friends from school. my juniors, seniors and classmates. i talk about twilight 24/7 in school and i have twilight posters in my file and my classmates one day just came up to me and asked me what made me love twilight. i gave them the book and they too got hooked.
But, my senior was a tough one. She once hated twilight and kept saying how bad it is when she has never read the book before. one day, she came to school reading Twilight and she said i kept talking about twilight so much that she wanted to read it and now she loves the books.
I guess when i talked about twilight so much that it tempted my friends to read it because they have no idea what i’m talking about and now they do.” – Lydia Mazlina

” Teens go mad for ‘vampire’
Philadelphia – There are times when the limitations of the printed word come into focus.
Take, for example, the need to convey how it sounded when Robert Pattinson, who stars as as vampire heartthrob Edward Cullen in the upcoming movie Twilight, stepped onto a platform at the King of Prussia Mall outside Philadelphia last Thursday evening, in front of more than 1,000 mostly teenage girls.In collective pitch, frequency and volume, the sound would make a shuttle launching seem demure. It may even have approached Beatles-at Shea Stadium loud, replete with the weeping, swooning and self-hugging, with only the flutter of cellphone cameras and furious texting by way of modern update. All this for a mostly unknown British actor who plays character in a movie that will not be released in the United States until Friday.
“What is with all the screaming?” Pattinson asked. He absently ran his hand through his hair. Pandemonium ensued. He tugged nervously at his white T-shirt in response. Oh boy. Then he laughed good-naturedly t the absurdity of it all.
Along with other members of the Twilight cast, the actor is touring stores of Hot Topic, a retail chain that caters to teenagers and pop culture, in malls across the country this month. It is not so much to up interest in the film, but to feed the monster it has already become.
For his appearance, fans arrived outside the mall the night before to get a ticket. The first 500 would receive a quick autograph on a poster and the rest a chance to see Pattinson. When he appeared, the crowd did not see an actor. They saw Edward Cullen, the perfect boyfriend who just happened to live on blood.Twilight comes to cinemas with a long and profitable back story in print: four novels and 17 million copies sold. Written by Stephenie Meyer, 34, the series originated with a dream she had about a young woman and her love for a vampire, who returns her love while managing to avoid his urge to bite her.
The books that followed take place in Cloudy Forks, Washington, where the Cullens, a group of sun-shirking vampires, live among humans but do not prey on them, drinking animal blood instead. Bella Swan, a shy, bookish young woman, is drawn to one of them, Edward, even after she comes to understand the danger.
He becomes her protector after another vampire, James, takes aim at her tender neck. So you have your against-the-odds teen love, your woman in peril, your vampires and your cult following.
The 22-year-old said he had no idea what to make of his situation, about to meet thousands of teenage girls – and many of their mothers – who were flat-out in love with him.
“It is bizarre,” he said. “People come from three states away and walk up to you trembling. I feel that I am at a disadvantage here because I can’t provide this mystical thing that they came for in the two seconds we have.” “
