Twilight in First Magazine
Previously, Az posted an entry about Twilight in the October issue of First magazine. Thanks again to Az fro posting that up. Now, we’ve got a write-up of what First Magazine says about Twilight.
Disclaimer: Twilight Singapore does not own First Magazine or Twilight.
“Based on a popular Stephenie Meyer novel, this $37-million teen vampire tale may just turn out to be the next Harry Potter. Kristen Stewart (Panic Room) is Bella Swan, the shy new girl in Forks, Washington, a rain-ridden small town. She meets Edward (Robert Pattinson, Harry Potter) and his family, a clan of “vampire vegeterians”, who feed on the occasional wild beast but never on humans (they can also appear in the day, provided they don’t come in contact with direct sunlight). And as Bella and Edward’s love grows deeper, so does his desire to have his “bloody” way with her. Can he stop himself? Can she resist him? Can they live happily ever after, in darkness and in stealth?
Unlike the Harry Potter franchise, though, the book’s league of teenage fem-fans were at first unconvinced that Pattinson could play the “heartbreakingly beautiful” Edward. But so assured are they now of the pretty boy’s gut-wrenching pulchritude that they’re saying on message boards that “when God made Robert Pattinson, he was just showing off”.”
“When Isabella “Bella” Swan discovers that her beloved Edward is a vampire, she is determined to stay with him despite the danger. Even though Bella’s scent is a hundred times more potent that most humans, Edward manages to control his blood lust out of his love for her. But when a vampire tracker decides to hunt Bella for sport, Edward has to fight to save her from her fate. Thus begins the battle between humans and vampires!
Published in 2005, Twilight is the first of five books in the series, which includes New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn and Midnight Sun. The movie adaptation, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, will be out on Dec 18.”
Ok well First magazine had a slight mistake with Midnight Sun, as it is not considered as the Twilight series but rather as a book by itself from Edward’s POV. The Twilight series has been by far from Bella’s POV and no one else’s, except for Jacob’s POV in Breaking Dawn.
Secondly, it is confirmed that Twilight will be coming to Singapore on DECEMBER 18, 2008!

Breaking Dawn in LifeStlye
Every Sunday I will browse through the LifeStyle Read section to look at the week’s Bestsellers and I was thrilled to find a book review of Breaking Dawn under Young Adult Fiction! The review can be found in today’s Sunday Times (October 5th), LifeStyle section page 23. Here’s a write-up of the review:
Nothing is trickier than teenage romance. Just ask 18-year-old Bella Swan, entangled in a love triangle with the coolest guy in class and a rebel hunk. And oh yes, the former just happens to be a vampire while the latter is a werewolf, making them mortal enemies.
Bella finally makes her choice in Breaking Dawn, the fourth and last installment of the best-selling supernatural Twilight series. She marries Edward Cullen, born in 1901 and preserved forever in a gorgeous 17-year-old vampire-strong body that can crush trees and stop traffic.
Jacob Black grudgingly gives his blessings but then snatches it back when he realises the happy couple are going on a “real” honeymoon - a cute euphemism for the events leading to Bella becoming pregnant with a mystertious, ominous foetus.
Not to give anything away, but Bella does not die from the pregnancy. It is not even the most dangerous thing to happen to her in the book.
Here is a clue: The Volturi, the vampire world’s ruling family, pays a long-threatened, deadly visit to the Cullens. But the final showdown, despite lots of tense build-up, is actually quite a letdown.
Breaking Dawn continues the readability of the most popular fantasy series since Harry Potter, but somehow loses the magic of the first three books.
Part of it is the sudden change in perspective in the middle section of the book from Bella’s narration to Jacob’s which is bland at best and draggy at its worst.
Its main problem, though, is the lack of realism that screams authorial laziness. Sure, vampires and werewolves cohabit in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. I can even believe, sort of, in vampire sperm (ewww).
But to have the vampires suddenly unearth not just one, but two, secret weapons against the Volturi is too much for my mortal mind. I will not give away the most unrealistic event of all, but it is a grimace-worthy turn.
Twilight fans looking for an action-packed read, however, can settle in for a good time.
What do you think of the review? Is 3 out of 5 stars a worthy vote for Breaking Dawn?
Twilight in First Magazine and the Twilight Cast Poster
Here are the two scans of Twilight up in FIRST magazine.
Its a very small write up. Nothing us Twilight fans wouldn’t already know…but still its nice seeing Twilight being featured in a Local magazine in all its glossy print glory. The first one introducing the magazines’ readers to the Twilight movie. And if you noticed, what a fitting title for the magazines regular feature…First Bites…:)
And the second write up is for the book.

I was out a few days ago at Suntec, and guess what I saw? At the front of PopCornPop? Now if you don’t know what PopCornPop is, it is actually a local movie memorabilia store that sell movie posters, collectibles and the like. And anyway yes I saw a Twilight poster. Though disappointingly it was not the theatrical poster. Nope it was the Twilight cast poster. You can check it out at their website here. The commercial print is going at $25 a pop. Hopefully the theatrical poster gets here soon.

Two more new pictures from the Entertainment Weekly photoshoot have been released. You can view them here.
Twilight @ The New Paper
Reposted With Permission. Thanks to thalia_csiny, here’s the article of Twilight from The New Paper that she posted at lion_lamb. She typed it all out, pictures included. See it here.
Vampire tale makes long-awaited transition from book to big screen
Based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novel about the secret unorthodox love affair between melancholic high schooler Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and swoonworthy vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) who doesn’t drink human blood.THE STORY
But the soul mates have to contend with the Cullen family’s vampire enemies who come to town looking for Bella.
THE JUICE
Not since Harry Potter has a book-to-film journey inspired so much enthusiasm. Twilight is the first installment from Meyer’s immensely successful young adult collection, which has sold more than 10 million copies in the US and has over 100 fan sites devoted to it.It has also become a cultural phenomenon, with a rabid fan base that is eagerly awaiting the US$37 million big-screen adaptation directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, The Nativity Story).
Henry Cavill was Meyer’s first choice to play Edward in the romance thriller, but by the time the film came to be, he was 25 and no longer looked like a 17-year-old. He was then offered the part of Carlisle Cullen, but turned it down due to his commitment with The Tudors.
Over 5,000 actors auditioned for the heartthrob role. Hardwicke had seen a picture of Pattinson, a 22-year-old Brit best known as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but has been underwhelmed. So he flew to meet Hardwicke at her home in Venice, California, and his audtion consisted of a love scene with Stewart on Hardwicke’s own bed.
To prepare of his role, Pattinson stayed out of the sun, wrote journal entries as Edward and shut himself off from his family and friends, but he has no formal training to perfect his American accent.
Meanwhile, Stewart (Panic Room, The Messengers) was recommended by Emile Hirsch, her co-star from Into the Wild and whom Hardwicke directed in Lords of Dogtown.
Hardwicke then flew to Pittsburgh – where Stewart, then 17, was shooting Greg Mottola’s Adventureland all night – and did an impromptu screen test with the young starlet, who learnt her new lines on the spot. And because Stewart didn’t turn 18 until the middle of production, was only allowed to use her for 5 hours a day. So for her big birthday, Stewart received a cake with a clock on it and the words “Now you’re on nights.”
The actors playing the Cullens wore topaz-colored contacts while green-eyed Stewart wore brown contacts because Bella is supposed to have brown eyes.
The initial 44-day production in Portland, Oregon – a location chosen in part because the skies are often overcast – was plagued by multiple weather-related difficulties, so the cast has to reunite recently to shoot additional scenes. One newly-redone scene shows Edward playing Bella’s lullaby, with Pattinson playing the actual song which was written by veteran film composer Carter Burwell (No Country for Old Men).
Hayley Williams, singer of US pop punk band Paramore and a huge fan of the Twilight craze, revealed they will have two songs on the movie soundtrack, Decode, which apparently details the inner working of the protagonists’ relationship, and a still-untitled track. A song from rock group Muse, Meyer’s favorite band will also be included.
My brother informed me about this at a late notice, therefore i am unable to take a scan of the article.
In addition, FIRST magazine has a small write-up on Twilight as well. If you have a scan of the write-up, do email it to us and we’ll post it up here. Hopefully, FIRST magazine will do a proper feature of Twilight!
